How many 2008 Patriot Draft Picks make the opening day 53 man roster?
It is called reality, we spend hours searching for the hidden gems in rounds 5,6,7 but year after year the likes of Mills, Childress are cast aside by those bozos at Foxboro.
How many 2008 Patriot Draft Picks make the opening day 53 man roster?
I am going to me an optimist and say 5 make the 53 man roster.
2 LBs
1 CB
1 Safety
1 O Line

I think about 3 make the roster. With maybe a couple of guys going to the practice squad. In spite of all the recent complaining, this is a pretty deep, veteran team. Why do you think the Pats castoffs keep getting snapped up by the rest of the league? The guys not talented enough to make our roster ARE considered good enough to make it onto more talent starved teams.

I am going 6, since only one made it last year.
I figure
1 OLB (Bringing the roation back to 4, and they seem to be interviewing all of them)
2 ILB (I am betting Seau does not return and Alexander needs a new career)
1 CB (Training camp start with 9 guys for 5 chairs)
1 RB (I would have said 5 make it, but why not add K. Faulks eventual replacement)
1 TE (My dark horse UDFA to make the 53 man squad.)

With 4 picks in the first 100 players drafted, it would be quite
disappointing to see only 3 draftees make the 53 man roster.
All but one of the 2008 free agents the Pats signed from another NFL
team signed one year contracts. If the Pats don't have better
luck than you predict, they will be in the same situation next
year with regard to holes at cornerback, safety, and linebacker.

4 picks in the top 100 so I said 4 players make the roster....a few more make the practice squad/IRed.
This team has to much talent for it to have 6,7,8 rookies added to it.

I don't think very many promising players are going to pass
thru waivers and end up on the practice squad. Other teams are
waiting to pick them up. The only solution might be IR or holding
a couple of roster spots open for developmental players.

Why Not? Where is there such tremedous depth that new blood cannot be added?
QB - Behind Brady, not much so 1 there
RB - Kyle Eckle is not Indespensible
TE - Legit Hole After Watson and Thomas
WR - 3 Solid, 1 Special Teamer, 1 big ?, last year there were 7, so 6 is possible
OL - Yates, Britt are certainly Upgrade-able
DL - 6 guys and 7 spots.
OLB - 3 guys 4 spots
ILB - 1 guy, 3 jags.
S - 2 starters, 1 possible, 1 special teamer
CB - 1 starter, 3 JAGs, 1 special teamer
So looks like plenty of room to improve to me. I do not see a position where at least a quality backup is not warrented.

The fans who look at the Patriots current roster see only a
handful of open spots. What they fail to realize is that 13
players become UFAs next year and 24 the following year. If
the Patriots have unproductive drafts the next couple of years,
how will they replace all these players?
