Default Patriots Heat Map

I developed a spreadsheet that uses a color coded map (red, yellow, green) to indicate where the roster needs help. The goal of the offseason is to move the reds to yellow and yellows to red. It is in a rough state, once it is a little more solid I will post the Excel file.

So about a month away from the draft I see the Patriots roster looking like this.

Rant - The attachments settings on the board are pretty rough. I have to scroll for an hour because of the gapped tooth photos people post as their signature. Then I try to post a simple .jpg and it re-sizes it to hell.

Love it... maybe add a blue or lighter green to make the difference between Brady/Moss and the 7's a little starker?

I was thinking of some sort of animation for Brady and Moss but I am not that smart..

One minor thing--"Open" should not count as filling a roster position. /

Very interesting. Opens a lot of discussion areas. I wonder about grades for people such as Izzo and Alexander, is the value based on special teams or ability to back up the position. Great job. I would put Lonnie Paxton higher. I think he is vastly underrated. His snaps are unerringly accurate and almost never off target.

Great spreadsheet. My one comment would be that, personally, I would have Meriweather penciled in at starting FS with a solid grade. He started the Super Bowl and played well down the stretch. I expect him to start and play really well next season.

The fact that most casual fans don't know him speaks volumes about his worth.

I will post the spreadsheet after I work out the kinks, then everyone can modify to their hearts content. As for Merriweather, I think he will be a solid pro but unless he improves those pieces of brick at the end of his arms he will never be a playmaker.

As for the Superbowl, I may have it wrong but I thought Sanders and Harrison started. Then Harrison got banged up for a stretch and Eugene Wilson stepped in (pretty sure they blitzed Wilson the first play he came in, but of course Wilson missed the tackle). In the final drive Meriweather missed an easy INT and then got caught up in traffic on a crucial 3rd and 12. But with Harrison getting up in years I could see a rotation at Safety.

I would like to see the Pats lock up Sanders before he becomes a free agent. He has gotten better each year, would be cheap, can play both safety spots and is young. He may never be an all pro but could be a steady solid player.

Here is the post draft heatmap (Excel file within zip). Feel free to apply your rankings to the players to see if it changes anything.

Analysis - Very solid across the board at all starting positions, serious unknowns at the most backup positions. The team is a top contender for a title run but is not as dominant as the 2007 team.

Based on Miguel's roster page as of 5/10/08
http://www.patscap.com/patriotsroster.html

Known bugs
- the final two TEs (Stupar & DeVree) were placed in as the 3rd and 4th FBs because I ran out of room at TE (only 4 slots per position)
