So he ran a 4.58 at 266 lbs, jumped 42", benched 37 times, and ran a 7.12 3-cone.
As a comparison, Merriman ran a 4.64 at 272 lbs, had a 40" VJ, benched 25 times, and skipped the 3-cone.
IMo Gholston will not be available at #7 anymore.

It seems like you should add .1 to everyone's 40 times at their pro days. Gholston ran a 4.67 at the combine, a 4.58 at the pro day. Larry Grant ran a 4.71 at the combine, a 4.60 at the pro day. Tavares Gooden ran a 4.65 at the combine, a 4.53 at the pro day. Something about those pro day 40 times...

The VJ at that weight impresses me more than any other numbers.

It's not a given YET. Even though it pains me to suggest this, I think it makes sense to scour the NY fanbase to find out if the Jets seem to have any SERIOUS interest in Gholston.

yup even if he were to fall through the top 5 the jets would take him in a heartbeat and prevent him from goin to the Pats.
my thoughts exactly. They can kill two birds with one stone. I was under this same impression last year when we had the pick ahead of them and they freaked out and traded up to 15 for Revis (somewhat of a reach).

Why? They have Pace now at OLB. IMO, they have other pressing needs. Namely helping noodle arm out. Thomas Jones is good. McFadden would be way better. No team, currently, in the top 5 will draft McFadden. The Jets defense is starting to shape up and be somewhat decent.

Don't think that was a reach for Revis. Revis is as good as any young cb in the NFL. I wish the Pats had moved up for him. In the end we wasted all those second day picks.

Why? cause you can never have too many good lbs in a lb driven system such as the 34, plus im sure mangina wouldnt mind stickin it to the Pats.
I don't know about that. There are many ways in which the draft could unfold. It all depends on the teams type of scouting, and its ability to pick out the right players for the right positions. Combine number mean very little, they have produced work-out warrior and some great players, ala "Lucky" Tebucky Jones. For every high profile kid coming out of college, there is some massive NFL comparison. But in real life every player must be himself and not someone else in order to truly become a great player.
Gholston could easily be there at #7. Other teams are not gonna take a player simply to stomp us, they are gonna take the best player they think can fit their scheme. There are many good mock drafts that have payed out that situation. I think the Jets would take MacFadden, since their QB ain't scarring noone. And they did just spend all that money to shore up the left side of o-line.
Personally I would be thrilled if we drafted him. I just hope we don't trade down.
