Default RB in round 1?

I know im gonna get killed here. looking at the last 20 season rushing title holders (going back to 1990)....

16 were 1st round picks.

4 were not.

I know we dont exactly have a ground and pound offense..Just thought it was interesting. Maybe you cant always find a RB in the later rounds, at least not one that can change the way teams play you...then again...Arian Foster.

Not saying we should go RB at 17 (although im not against it at all), we should really consider it at 28. Thoughts??

There are too many solid mid-round RB's in this draft to waste #17 or #28 on a RB IMO.

Fielding the NFL rushing leader isn't what it used to be, of course. No annual rushing leader has come close to the Superbowl since...who, Terrell Davis with the Elway Broncos?

Regardless, though, this isn't much of an RB draft. IMO Ingram is the only one worthy of even the #28.

When was the last time one of those rushing yards leaders won a Super Bowl?

Well there is logic behind it.
1-BB has drafted a RB in the first round so he isnt shy
2-Its definately a position of need which our first pick is usually used for
3-We paid Fred flippin Taylor $3M a year for 2 years....
4-BB knows Nick Saban
5-Ingram has shown he can carry a load
6-He is coming off a season with a relatively light load
7-More than anyone else in the draft....Ingram helps us WIN first down better than anyone there at 17! Not even close!

Now thats not to say I'd prefer to draft Ingram or that BB does, but if we have a wink-wink deal set up with Light and there isnt a stud DL there at 17 that wont be there at 28....and the drop off between Ingram and the next best RB is so great then I can totally see Ingram at a Patriot. It would surprise me alot less than the McCorty pick! LOL.

What point is having a 1st round RB if your O-line can't block well enough for him and the rest of the offense.

Koppen was horrible last year until Mankins showed up.

Connolly was ok as was Wendell.

The Pats only have 1 proven tackle under contract in Vollmer. LeVoir and Maneri are big question marks.

Light is a UFA and may have only a year or two left. I am hoping the Pats draft an OT to develop opposite Vollmer, while bringing Light back short term.

I am also hoping the Pats will draft an OC and an OG because I don't feel that Koppen can handle the job anymore.

As for counting on Neal, I think you are more likely to win the lotter than get a full healthy season out of Neal.

But does Ingram provide value? I don't think so. Not when you have issues on the O-line.

Ingram is in the cast of BGJE, so do we need another RB? yes. Do we need another BGJE while taking a high pick away from another position? No.

The best bang for your buck for RBs in this draft will be in the 3rd round.

Well if we cut Kaczur and Light doesnt have the wink wink deal going on then we WILL draft a T without much doubt. No sense paying Light big bucks, knowing that Vollmer can handle the job AND drafting a T in the first round....that just doesnt make sense. No center/guard is rated that high, jags will certainly be picked up in FA as well as some lower picks. The "value" is all in the eyes of BB, and it doesnt even have to be "real value" either....as long as BB thinks Ingram will be that much better than the 2nd/3rd rated RB and can catch and block its "percieved value"....We have a VERY young defense, the youngest in the league right? Adding more young players might not be the right "mix", adding a few short term vets or preferrably 1 BIG TIME FA LB (Woodley!)might gel them better. Who knows??

BJGE never won a Heisman, he didnt have teams gameplanning against him. Ingram is alot more shifty and hits the hole alot quicker if its there AND he has the elusiveness to do something with it if it isnt there.....BJGE is a jag who has 1 skill....not fumbling. We DO need another RB, the only question is does BB think the difference between RB #1 and #2 is bigger than DL/OLB #10 and #13?? We do have lots of picks left to get help on defense and OL but do we pass on the best RB available??
