Nice to see more people on the Woodley train lately

I think he's a beast, and would kill in NE's defense.

Anyways, I like the guy, and have for some time now. One thing I'm hoping is that if NE doesn't take him a team like Indy doesn't grab him to play DE. Freeney, and Woodley rushing off the edge isn't something I want to see. Also, the fact that he's played ILB(HS), DE for two years in college, and OLB for two years in college makes him somewhat versatile.

I just found out a few additional nuggets:
According to an article in the Sunday Herald, he's got a 4.0GPA! Woodley has a lot of passion for the game, and is the unquestioned leader of their defense. During the offseason (after their dissapointing '05 season) Woodley organized a defensive team meeting focused on getting prepared for the '06 season.

I think it says a lot that Pees is looking at him first hand.

The best way I know to describe Woodley is relentless.

Woodley might not be the prospect that Timmons, Beason, Spencer or even Pozlunzy is, but I love what I head about his leadership, smarts, motor and love for the game.

If you have those things, you can make up for a lack of height or a slow 40.

He's almost the same exact size as Thomas, so I wouldn't worry about his lack of hight. Woodley is 6'1.4" and weighs 266LBS. Thomas is 6'2" and weighs 270lbs.

"I love this part of the article: "There's tradition, they got leaders there and they're all willing to work," said Woodley, a Michigan teammate of Patriots linebacker Pierre Woods. "It's like Michigan, that name's been built and you want to keep it going."

Also, he ran a 4.72 - 40 at his Pro Day but thats coming off a muscle strain, and I know he's run in the 4.6 range.

I agree. I actually took him @ 1.28 in a very early (January) community mock that I participated in (on another site). Below is the write up.

Quote:
28. New England Patriots
LaMarr Woodley, LB/DE, Michigan (6-2, 274) — By "Mogamedogz"
Woodley has the size and speed to be an outstanding pass rusher. Built in the mold of ex- Patriot linebacker Willie McGinest, his solid 275-pound build allows him the versatility to play with his hand on the ground or standing up. LaMarr is most effective when he is allowed to roam free with the option of attacking the quarterback. Belichick's exotic 3-4 schemes should provide him with plenty of opportunity to maximize his terrific instincts and overall athleticism. While the Pats will likely further address the LB position via free agency, Woodley will help add some youthful depth to their stable.

Yea, I had Woodley going to NE in two of my mock drafts.

Woodley has been projected as a late second to early third rounder by most publications that I've read so far. But, is the first part of April and that is when some players begin to rise and some begin to fall. If the Patriots look at him at as first rounder, that is good enough for me.

Unfortunately it looks like Willis is starting to rise into the top ten, which puts him out of range for the Patriots.

I think he is GROSSLY underrated, and the combine/pro-day's hurt his "Public" stock a little.

I wouldn't be surprised if he wowed teams in the interview process though. Woodley could be one of those players that NE picks, and it leaves people scratching their heads (because of the late second round projections).

he's not always a late second/early third projection.
Scouts Inc:"Woodley improved his draft stock with a productive senior season and should be off the board in the top-40 overall picks of the 2007 draft."
DraftStock "projected round: 2" "Should be drafted by the middle to late stages of the 2nd round."

Also, I hope people remember Woodley had a hamstring strain/pull during the Senior Bowl and that is the reason he could complete the senior bowl week, and it's probably still effected his combine and Pro Day workouts. I know he didn't run the 40 at the combine because he was still coming off the hammy. At his Pro Day, which was not all that much later he ran a 4.72. I know he's run a 4.67, and thats at 266-274lbs. That's faster for a man his size. Some of the 238-245lbs LB's ran simular times.

All LBs are more effective if they can free lance while the other LBs, DTs and DEs are being given the contain and lane-control assignments.
