Even if trading our two picks would allow us to move into a top ten position, signing him to a contract is still a challenge. Last year, Huff and Whitner both signed 5 year contracts well in excess of $20 million and each player received guaranteed money in the ballpark of $15 million. With this year's bull market in free agency, the figures will only increase. Not exactly a value for a rookie who has yet to play a set of downs....

No argument here. I don't think there's a player in the draft that the Patriots would move up past #14 or so for. That's just bad economics. If you have a pick that high and can't trade it, then by all means use it. But to actively trade into one of those slots is very un-BB.

Most posters on this board probably realize this but every other caller to the Big show yesterday suggested that the Pats move up. I was getting aggrevated....

Of course of they prove me wrong, best move ever....haha

I'm with Mr Heat. I could see us moving up a few slots from 24 to the high teens if they really had a hard on for someone but I don't see anyone in there that really lights my fire and picking up a Mankins and a Maroney (so to speak, I'm not advocating the OL or a back) in the low 20s would do me fine.

If Landry slips to the mid-teens, a trade may be doable where we give up No. 24 and 28 for a mid first rounder and a second rounder. I'd make that trade in a heart beat, rather than have to "reach" on 2nd round talent in round 1.

Hall is beginning to slide on a lot of boards, like GBN, and he might be someone I'd think about trading up a few slots for, if the price is right.

Interesting that he's sliding again after his Combine boost, makes you wonder if anyone is looking at tape and questioning his playing speed?

EDIT: As for Landry and a move to the top ten, the deals of Huff and Whitner are nice for them, but not what price I'd put on a Safety in a Safety rich draft. My wild speculation about Carriker that high is only half in jest, a DE of his apparent caliber is easily worth that kind of money...and if he could actually be used like old Willie Mac was, and signed for six years, it's dirt cheap compared to many of the new CBA deals getting done. All things being even, I seriously doubt BB would ever trade that high, I don't like this draft class so I'd consider it, but as the Pats thin out their tradable draft picks, such a move looks more extreme.

I could see them moving into the 14-18 range for Patrick Willis. That's assuming he last that long (in doubt) and they're actually interested.

Trading down would seem like a possibility, but this seems less attractive after hearing Scott Pioli's take on the subject.
