Like you, I see him playing on his feet and rushing against a tackle in space. He seemed to hold up well against blocks but would need to be able to disengage better to be an every down guy for the Pats. That assessment (which is obviously IMO) would put him as a 2nd round option...not a great value using their 1st round pick.
Did anyone see Texas A&M play? I would be curious for people's assessment of Von Miller vs. Jerry Hughes as a weak side backer. Miller is currently 6'3" 240#, but supposedly has a frame that could easily add 10-15 lbs. without a loss of speed. Tony Pauline posted a rumor a few weeks ago that the Pats and Steelers have expressed interest in Miller.

I watched the AM game and Von Miller was INVISIBLE!!! HE got handled by blocks and made no impact whatsoever.

Good to know. I've always assumed Miller was a one-trick pony (pass rusher but nothing else) without the size and strength to do all the things BB likes from his OLBs. I was surprised at the report from TFYdraft that the Pats had supposedly expressed interest in him:

"Texas A&M defender Von Miller is also likely to play one more college game before entering the draft. Scouts have told us the Aggie junior ranks just behind Ndamukong Suh of Nebraska and Oklahoma’s Gerald McCoy on the list of the top defenders from the Big 12. Southwest area scouts think Miller, who is projected as an outside linebacker by most, could easily add 15-pounds to his frame and stay at the defensive end position. He presently grades out as a second round choice but sources have told us the Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots have shown a lot of interest in Miller and could over-draft him in round one."

Miller played very well, for his size he showed some good strength at the point of attack, got some good pressure on the QB - that said he needs to stay for his senior year. I do see why NE and Pit are looking at him so closely, he effectively plays 3-4 OLB up on his feet most plays (apples to apples, very nice for a change). The A&M "Jack" I got interested in is the senior leading the #2 DL (A&M used hockey-style lines for the most part rather than individual substitutions, though they did that too), Matt Featherston - 6-2 / 253. He's not as quick/explosive off the snap for pass rushing, but he gets pressure, has good awareness, and he was the primary "jack" when Georgia went to the run to kill the clock. An inexpensive OLB project for Day Three.

Hughs reminds me more of Dwight Freeney, he's also a converted RB who needs more development. The biggest knock on him, Boise's starting RT was out with a broken ankle - they used a freshman reserve Guard at RT...and while they did chip him with backs, there wasn't a lot of help for that kid shoved in at RT. I'd earmark NE's 2nd round pick as the highest I'd be willing to spend on him.

So how much better is Hughes than Bruce Davis, our practice squad OLB??? What is the difference??

I can rememeber Davis taking over some games for UCLA, based on last nite's game I didn't see much in Hughes favor as compared to Davis.

Yea, Davis is yesterday's news but will Hughes be old news in a couple of years??

For someone like BB all he has to do is see a guy go thru a couple of drills and he knows what kind of athletic value is there in front of him.

Davis came at a better price.
