1 Lions - In reality, the Lions are going to select whichever player who will sign his name on the name which is dotted. So now we have to guess who that will be. I suppose Jason Smith is as likely as anybody else. As long as their considering Smith/Monroe/Raji/and Curry, they'll be okay. Stafford will get them laughed at.

2 Rams - Eugene Monroe in the easiest pick in the mock.

3 Chiefs - BJ Raji - Glenn Dorsey makes a nice 3-4 End, but a Nose Tackle is needed to make the new 3-4 fly.

4 Seahawks - I was pretty sure Aaron Curry would be the pick here even before the
'hawks traded Julian Peterson.

5 Browns - The Browns need a OLB badly, so if ManKok decides Orakpo or Brown is worthy,
they will be the pick here. They also need a CB, bringing Jenkins in play. They need a WR
severely, but spending a high pick on one doesn't seem to be the ideal course. Of course, after trading Winslow, trying to trade Edwards, cutting Jurevicius, and Stallworth possibly being jailed, they do need one to play immediately. I'm sure they'll be trying to trade out of this spot. Do the 49ers want to trade up for a QB? Probably not this high unless they get a chart discount. The Browns are without a 3rd rounder this year, so let's trade this pick to the 49ers for #10 and the 49ers 3rd rounders this year (#74) and next. The 49ers have renegotiated Alex Smith, which allows them to take Mark Sanchez here.

6 Bengals - Cincy needs an edge rusher here, so Brian Orakpo makes sense.

7 Raiders - I don't think there's much doubt that Crazy Al wants to go WR here. The question is which. Crabtree wasn't a burner to begin with, and doesn't figure to be faster after foot surgery. Jeremy Maclin seems to fit the profile and will hopefully give JeMarcus a reliable target.

8 Jaguars - There are rumblings that they are thinking about QB here, but Garrard gets paid to be a starter, and he wasn't bad at all when the offensive line was healthy. I think their decision is down to Andre Smith and Malcolm Jenkins, whom they'll ultimately opt for.

9 Packers - Another team switching defensive schemes, current personnel be damned. They definitely need a front-seven defender who can come in and compete for a starting role. I think Everette Brown best fits the profile.

10 Browns (from San Francisco) - I guess the teams drafting 6-9 make up his decision for him. The Browns take Michael Crabtree.

11 Bills - At some point, this Jason Peters fella has to go, as we're currently on Season Two of the Shoot Yourself Out of Town show. It's a gamble, but taking a left tackle, such as Michael Oher makes more sense than a tight end or linebacker right now.

12 Broncos - Matthew Stafford probably doesn't have the ideal accuracy to run Josh
McDaniels's offense, but unless they get a QB back from the upcoming Cutler trade, they're
pretty desparate for a long-term solution. Hopefully for the Broncos, they'll pull a QB back from the trade and get some defensive help here.

13 Redskins - If Andre Smith is here, he would appear to be a no-brainer.

14 Saints - That sound you hear is Rey Maualuga music, bringing youth and talent to
what might be the worst linebacking corps in the NFL.

15 Texans - I think the Texans were probably looking at Maualuga here. Teammate Brian
Cushing will have to suffice.

16 Chargers - The Chargers really don't need anything right here. If another team is enamored with Freeman, this is the place to take him. The Bucs took a highly regarded QB last year, but that was Gruden's guy, so I guess it's possible. The Lions would be an option, but does Freeman fit over there -- probably not. So I guess AJ Smith stands pat and reaches for Tyson Jackson

17 Jets - I see Freeman going here quite a bit, but I don't see it. Although the Jets needs are primarily on the offensive side, it's hard to see a Ryan use a first round pick on offense. Of course, none of the available defenders look to be Ryan types either. I have a feeling this spot could be the first round pick that nobody sees coming. A Brian Robiskie/Eben Britton/Hakeem Nicks/Eric Wood type of pick. What the heck, I'll say Eben Britton

18 Bears - I suppose a reach for William Beatty is possible, but I think a dependable WR would be a nice find. Percy Harvin could instantly become the best WR on the team.

19 Buccaneers - This pick will probably come down to their favorite defensive lineman.

20 Lions (From Dallas ) They need help at defensive tackle, so a slight reach for Ziggy
Hood seems justified, as the drop off after him seems significant.

21 Eagles - Are they high on Pettigrew? Does he provide an upgrade to Brent Celek? I'm not sure he does. What I do know is that Bryan Westbrook isn't getting younger or less fragile, and that Correll Buckhalter's gone. Chris Wells seems to be an ideal complement and can carry the load if need be.

22 Vikings - Being in a division with the Bears and Lions, sometimes it's easy to forget that you need a cornerback upgrade. The pick is Vontae Davis.

23 Patriots - I see Beatty, Sintim, Barwin, & DHB as candidates here. Seattle's on the phone offering #37 and next year's #2. BB really doesn't want to trade down that far. Seattle then calls back and offers #37 and next year's #1 for #23 and #199. The Patriots accept, even though #199 has a special place in the heart of Belichick. The Seahawks select Knowshown Moreno.

24 Falcons - They've been missing their tight end since Alge left town, so Brandon
Pettigrew makes sense here.

25 Dolphins - I still can't believe they're drafting this low. Parcells doesn't reach, and he likes the big bodies, which leads me to project Connor Barwin to the man who once used a #4 pick on Willie McGinest.

26 Ravens - Well, they've definitely got to replace all those defensive guys who've followed
Ryan up I-95. They start with Clay Matthews

27 Colts - With the top-rated DTs gone, Polian will do what Polian does and draft a "skill"
position player, such as Hakeem Nicks

28 Eagles (From Carolina) - William Beatty makes a lot of sense for the team of the
aged and injured OTs.

29 Giants - They need a receiver to replace Burress and contribute immediately. While they
could take the tall kid out of the State University of New Jersey, or the highly-rated speedster, I think Brian Robiskie is the best candidate to step onto the field and contribute opening day, assuming they don't pull of a trade for Anquan Boldin or another veteran receiver.

30 Titans - Tennessee could use a guy like DHB pretty badly, and I can see them weighing this against teams attempting to trade up into the first round, New England included. If they miss out on DHB, they'll have to settle for Britt, but perhaps they figure they can still get him at #34 given the teams in between. The Patriots, with an extra pick in the third feel comfortable giving up their fourth for a four-spot move. The Titans have a lot of critical needs (WR, DT, CB) and would probably like the pick. The Patriots trade into the pick, leaping ahead of two 3-4 defenses and select Clint Sintim.

31 Cardinals - Well, with one more OLB off the board, who do they like best here? I really
don't get too wrapped up in positions of need, but the Cards could really use two OLBs out of this draft. However, I expect Alex Mack is very high on their board, and this is a great place to take him.

32 Steelers - The Champs are in pretty good shape to take the best player available for their system, and I'm guessing that it's Darius Butler

I'm casting my lot with Jared Cook here and look for a safety at 58. He's our starting TE in 2010, and he should be an impact special teams player and spot-player until then. If Watson gets hurt, he could get a lot of reps.

I guess the question here is if McKenzie is a significantly better ILB prospect than Robert Francois or Antonio Appleby and worth passing up one of the DBs. Probably not, which means my board needs adjusting. After almost exhausting my allotted time, I select Coye Francies CB San Jose St as the best available value.

There are few people in this draft whom you can feel confident in their on-field performance, measurables, and pedigree. Shipley's one of them, and if I thought he could play guard, I'd put his name on the card. Unfortunately, I think he's stuck at center, and I'm happy with Hochstein as a backup there. Instead I'm going WR, and drafting Jarrett Dillard WR Rice.

It wouldn't surprise me, and I don't think it would be the first time in recent years. That being said, I could see one of Baker or Thomas being cut.

The new kickoff return rules seem to favor athletic big guys like Cook, so he could make the team as primarily a special teamer instead of a guy like Alexander, in which case carrying 4 TEs is no problem.

My one quibble is what would be Seatle's reasoning for trading up that high? The 4 teams after the Pats wouldn't seem to have a need for RB and you already have the Eagles taking one at 21.

Because Belichick is going to tell Holmgren that Indy, Cleveland, and Cincinnati have all talked to him about trading into that pick. If Moreno gets to 23, I think some surprise teams would be interested into taking a run at him. Seattle is pretty desparate. Of course, they could trade into #22 just as easily.

I'm not buying. I strongly prefer DE and OG to Meredith and Cook.

And yes, Cook would be expected to beat out one of the TE's. That is the point of drafting upgrades.

We carried 10 receivers last year, with four of them top special teamers: Slater, Washington, Aiken and Ventrone. I don't see that changing much. Lewis has replaced Washington.

Cook has stiff competition if he is going to be the 4th TE and make the team as a special teamer.
