After having a breakout game at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers almost two weeks ago where he caught 6 passes on 7 targets along with a touchdown from quarterback Tom Brady, Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola has been inexplicably absent ever since.

Amendola missed last week's contest against Detroit with no explanation with an undisclosed injury, but the good news is the veteran receiver returned to practice on Monday.

According to Field Yates of ESPN Boston, Amendola took part in the team's session this afternoon, which is encouraging as the Patriots continue preparing for their regular season opener on September 8th against the Buffalo Bills.

While Amendola was out, Brady turned to rookie Kenbrell Thompkins, who caught 8 passes for 116 yards including a 37 yard pass on New England's 3rd offense play of the game against Detroit.  It was a strong performance, which should have Patriots fans feeling pretty optimistic about this offense. Both have shown the ability to potentially be explosive players, and the fact whatever he was dealing with wasn't serious is definitely a positive sign as we get closer to the regular season.

Needless to say having Amendola back is good news, but it remains to be seen how much - if at all - he'll play in their exhibition finale on Thursday night against the New York Giants.
