FOXBORO, MA -- After getting Tyrone Poole back last Sunday during the Patriots' win over the Cincinnati Bengals, it appears the veteran cornerback's attempt at a comeback for this season will be a brief one.
Poole was in on a handful of plays during the game and at the time reported no setbacks, but apparently he suffered one at some point this week and according to the team's official website was placed on injured reserve on Friday.
He had been listed as "questionable" on the team's injury report, but his condition must have worsened. It also looks like it may have happened on Friday after Belichick had told reporters earlier in the day that he thought it was possible that Poole could have seen more playing time this week.
Meanwhile Patriots cornerback Ty Law (Foot) was upgraded to "doubtful" for this week and had told reporters he was hoping to be ready for Monday night's game, but as of Friday he remained listed as "doubtful" which means the likelihood he'll be seen on the field in Miami isn't too good. Safety Dexter Reid (shoulder) joins Law as "doubtful". Reid's injury is also a mystery. The Boston Globe reported that Reid had a groin injury that apparently required X-rays after the game. However the team is listing him as having a shoulder injury.
Bethel Johnson (thigh) was added to the injury report on Friday, joining Matt Chatham (hamstring), Randall Gay (arm), David Givens (ankle), Daniel Graham (rib), Roman Phifer (calf), Asante Samuel (shoulder) as "questionable" for this week.
Tom Brady (right shoulder), Jim Miller (right shoulder), and Rodney Harrison (flu) round out the team's injury report and are all listed as "probable".
With all the problems the Patriots have had in their secondary this season, Belichick told reporters on Friday that he fully expects teams to try and exploit the inexperience New England has on defense.
"I'm sure that the more the teams see anybody play, the more that they'll game plan for that particular player," said Belichick. "Absolutely [they'll] try to attack that player's weaknesses and run certain routes or run certain plays that they think exploit either the scheme or individual players. Without a doubt."
