The Miami Herald is reporting that Dolphins head coach Dave Wannstedt's tenure as head coach in Miami is about to come to an end, and Charlie Weis is reportedly a candidate to replace him.
According to the newspaper Dave Wannstedt went to work Monday morning and had apparently hoped to finish out the season in his job. But after meeting with Wayne Huizenga on Monday evening - at which the Dolphins owner reportedly made it clear that Wannstedt would be dismissed at the end of the season - the two men then decided it would be in the best interest of all parties to make a change sooner rather than later.
Several sources close to the team and Huizenga told The Miami Herald that Wannstedt is going to announce his resignation Tuesday afternoon.
The resignation comes less than 24 hours after Wannstedt mocked the idea of resigning when he was asked about it after Sunday's 24-23 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Wannstedt reportedly laughed and told a reporter who asked about his intentions that resigning wasn't even close to being on his mind. He reportedly did not answer his telephone Monday evening.
According to the Herald other candidates include former University of Florida coach Steve Spurrier, Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Brad Childress, and Louisiana State University head coach Nick Saban.
