The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported on Friday that University of Arkansas administrative assistant Justin Crouse has accepted a job with the New England Patriots.
According to the newspaper Crouse has been hired as a player personnel assistant. He reportedly interviewed with the Patriots back on May 14th and accepted the job this week. He will reportedly assume his duties with New England in about three weeks.
Crouse apparently interviewed for a position with player personnel but instead ended up with what he told the newspaper was, "a better job than I interviewed for. I will be doing scouting and personnel stuff."
Although he enjoyed working at the university apparently this was an opportunity that he felt was too good to pass up.
"I have always wanted to do it [work in the NFL]," Crouse told the Democrat-Gazette. "I didn't think it would happen this fast. Scott Peoli, the GM for the Patriots, was down looking at [runningback] Cedric [Cobbs] in the fall. I was talking about our players and he just asked me, kind of off the record, if I would ever want to get into the NFL. I said yes but I didn't think he took it too serious, but the next thing I know he called Houston [Nutt] two weeks ago and asked if it would be OK to interview me for the job."
According to the newspaper Crouse won't be required to move to Foxboro, since his primary scouting area will reportedly be the SEC area and Missouri. "I will probably be based out of Memphis," Crouse told the newspaper. "They said I could stay here in Fayetteville, but the area they gave me is a little more east. I can get anywhere from Memphis."
