Default Highly speculative mock with trades..... (F Cox, S McClellin, J Jenkins, T Johnson)

.....lots of trades.

Its in the AM and I can't sleep, so I thought I'd fantasize a mock drafts....WITH TRADES.....LOTS of trades. The object of this draft is come out with 4 players who can make an immediate impact on the defense

1, The Pats trade Ryan Mallet for the the pick #37 to Cleveland who think he's a better prospect than either Weeden or Osweiler Sorry Grid, I just got off the phone with BB and he agrees with ME.

So the Pats go into this draft with picks 27, 31, 37, 48, 63, 126 151 If we hadn't been so active in FA I'd love to pick 7 players with these picks, but since we were very active I think might end up wasting those picks on players who would have a hard time makng the roster. However, now we now have the flexibility to move up to get BB's favorite player and still come away with 4 players who make an immediate impact.

2. They then trade the 31st and 37th pick plus a 2013 6th round pick for the #13 pick to select Fletcher Cox a very low risk player who can make an immediate impact on passing situations at both the 3-4 DE or 4-3 DT.

This a good trade for the Cards since they gain a high pick in a round they currently don't have one. Plus now with 2 picks in close proximity they can meet BOTH their major needs (OL and WR)with red chip players

3. So now, with OUR biggest need filled with higher end player, the Pats will have their pick of the best of the 2nd tier DE/OLB's. And there are several that are rated about the same. McClellin, Branch, Curry, Irvin, Perry will all be there in that 27 to 40 area..

I think if there are trading partners it would be a good time to pick up a future draft pick and still get one of those guys. I can see 2 good possibilities. The Giants at 32, who desperately need a TE and want to make sure they get Fleener, the ONLY TE of note in this draft Or the Colts at 34 who might part with a 2013 3rd rounder to make sure they get Stephan Hill and have a promising WR prospect that Luck can grow with.

4. So lets say its the Colts, and with the 34th pick the Pats pick Shea McCellin, though any of those other guys would be OK as well. I just happen to like McClellin.

5. Low an behold they keep the #48 and a thrilled to find the Janoris Jenkins is still there. BB can't resist a top 15 talent in the middle of the 2nd round and makes the pick.

6. Now with #62 I'm looking for BB to address the safety situation. I think at this point there will be two good choices and I'd be happy with either. Trumaine Johnson and George Iloki. Both are tall and have good range, but if I have to pick one it would be Johnson, because he can also play CB and OTG loves him.

7. With the 3rd round pick at 126, I am of two minds. I wouldn't hate it to draft an OT at this spot if BB thought we needed more depth, but I'm also thinking that every projected 53 man roster I've seen would have a hard time keeping more than 4 draftees, So I'm thinking lets trade this pick with someone looking for more picks, and will give us a 2013 3rd round pick which is likely to be much higher Lets say someone like the Jags who have a lot of holes to fill and need picks now.

8. With the last pick again I would again be tempted by an Olman or someone like Broyles who could spend a year on the IR, but again I have this roster problem so we trade it, lets say to the Saints who desperately need picks for a 4th rounder next year plus a 7th this year. Now BB will have something to do on the 3rd day of the draft and can be assured of getting his highest rated UDFA with one of the last picks in the draft

BOTTOM LINE – here's what we end up with

a. Fletcher Cox DE/DT
b. Shea McCellin OLB/DE
c.Janoris Jenkins CB
d, Trumaine Johnson S/CB
e. Some guy we never heard of who makes the PS
f. Two extra 3rd round picks, and a 4th round pick in 2013

I can live this outcome

If that mock were to happen I'd probably od with joy. Love all 4 guys. Then I'd wake up and realize it's only speculative.

Ken,
You cooking up a Meth lab or what? 3AM and you are "buzzed"
Great scenerio and I can see your logic regarding Mallet in comparison to what would be left on the board. Even with that though, I'm not sure Cleveland would give up a 2nd.

It's now official, we won't draft any of those guys..

I highly doubt Jenkins falls to #48, but I could see the Pats taking him at #37 if they kept that pick. IMO that would be a steal. Yes, he's an idiot but he's an idiot who is very talented. Instead of trading up I would take Harrison Smith at #31, McClellan somewhere in the 2nd, then trade all the other picks for late round flyers or into future years.

Mallett is not going...especially for that pick. *sigh* You're worse than the Bequette sympathisers!

Cox will not fall there. On that pipe in the late hours?

McClellin I would love there. Might come off the board sooner given the recent hype...I would personally take this guy at 27 if the other top guys are off the board. The more tape I watch, the more I think this guy could come in this year and potentially start.

Could certainly live with Jenkins in the second round. Top ten talent. I have heard whispers it's the Cowboys who have the most interest on him and wouldn't hesitate to take him in the first. I think they have the locker room to deal with him too.

Love Johnson. Have been one of his biggest fans for a while now ever since a friend of mine sent me over a bunch of coaches tape on the guy.

I'd look at RB and WR in the later rounds. OT/G is another area I would look at.

The New England Patriots do not own the #151 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

The New England Patriots have already traded away the fifth and sixth round draft picks in the 2013 NFL Draft.

The New England Patriots organization are more likely to trade down than up in the 2012 NFL Draft.

At least some rational thought with regard to DE/OLB position.

I doubt the New York Giants or the Indianapolis Colts will trade up to the #27 overall pick.

McClellin won't get past the Green Bay Packers in the first round.

Cromartie part deux - no thanks.

Not thrilled with either.

The New England Patriots own the #93 overall pick in the third round.

You were heading in the right direction with Broyles and then blew it.

If Mallet had entered this year's draft, (and let's say he had the same issues as last year), he would be the 3rd QB taken off the board.

This year's QB class aside from the upper class, is garbage.

High speculative mock with trades:

NFL | Jaguars 'desperate' to trade out of 7th spot - Rotoworld.com

The Philadelphia Eagles own the #15 overall pick and the #46 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. The Philadelphia Eagles trade the #15 and #46 overall picks in the 2012 NFL Draft to the Jacksonville Jaguars for the #7 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and select defensive tackle Fletcher Cox.

If Mallet played in college last season, instead of the NFL, with that stable of WR's, and another year in the Petrino system, I might be able to cobble together a pretty argument that Mallet would be going #2 instead of Griffin.

Maybe. But not to the Skins. Shanny likes mobile QB for his roll out offense. Cutler and Mallet's arms are similar but Culter is mobile compared to Mallet.
