Predicting the future is tough, though, isn't it? I'm not sure it's the best business to be in.

On a positive note, here's a blurb from Mike Lombardi on the kid:

"Los Angeles 6:10 p.m.

Tim of Boston writes in to ask if Jerod Mayo was a reach at No. 10. I say no, not at all. It's exactly like the Dwight Freeney scenario I talked about in my mock draft review. Mayo went to the perfect team -- he is very smart, can play all the linebacker positions and he gives the Pats front seven more team speed.

Mark my words: In two years, Mayo will be a star. --Michael Lombardi"

Edit: How about some unintentional irony?

Any time your Top 10 pick hasn't seen a live down or even been on the training camp field you've got to be concerned.

I think he can be a very good player and fit well in the middle of this defense but hope this guy is not made of glass as his annual injury history is a concern - Anyone worried about this at this time?
LOL. I hope not. He would be horning on on Maroney's role.
I really hope that Mayo is as talented and dedicated a player as Patrick Willis.
Probably not realistic, but we can dream.

Maybe they should come up with a new stat or paramiter 'The Glass Factor" He hasn't played yet and his glass factor is pretty high.

Next year at the combine : Yeah I agree his ability is off the charts but I'm concerned about his "glass factor"

I am hoping he puts on about 10-15 pounds before TC as long as it does not slow him at all.

I think 10 lbs is the most we can realistically expect. Even 8 is ok. Remember, Mayo's biggest strength is his 4.5 speed. I wouldn't sacrifice that speed for an extra 5 lbs of bulk if that means he won't be effective covering TEs and slot receivers coming out of the backfield.

I agree 100% - His speed was a big factor over other things in deciding to draft him I am sure. - 250-255 lbs sounds great.
