Default jeffbiologist mock v2 with veterans mixed in

I sincerely doubt our draft would go this way but this is all for fun anyways. If one hint gets dropped into the FOs ears so be it,lol.

In our tradition of trading picks for established players:

We are sitting at 7 staring at Matt Ryan and get a call from TUNA. We trade 7, and our 09 #2 for Jason Taylor, #32 and next years #1. I know not a popular trade for most guys here, but I think its "fair"(dont you hate unfair trades in mocks?).

We wait around til #32 and take Sam Baker USC G/T. He solidifies the OL, a thing thats caused many off season nitemares.

Come the end of day 1 we hit upon another major trade: Chad Johnson wants to win and is willing to come here at a discount! We trade #62 AND Chad Jackson to the Bungals(looking for a WR replacement). No room for Jackson with Johnson here, and we now have an offense to scare even TB!!

Day 2 the place is still buzzing about our moves. With a high 3 (69)we are drawn to the only real NT on the board and take Red Bryant-TX A&M.

Late in the 3rd(94) with every NE fan clamoring for a CB we finally take CB Chevis Jackson-LSU.

Continuing our theme, we trade #129 in the 4th for Cardinals TE Ben Patrick of Delaware(07) via Arizona. A BIG TE, made the team as a 7th rd draft pick and will do well as our 3rd TE.

Sliding down the boards for no apparant reason besides being small, at pick 164 in the 5th rd we take our conversion project--SS Wesley Woodyard of Kentucky.

At pick 197 in the 6th rd another slider taken in by the pats-DJ Hall-WR Alabama. We are hoping to use him primarily as a returner now that CJ is gone.

With all his problems (bad knee and legal) he is off most teams draft boards but seeing that #238 wont make the team in 08 why not get a guy who will redshirt in 08 and hopefully help us next year? Jack Ikeguowa(sp?)-CB Wisconsin.

New additions:
Jason Taylor-OLB
Chad Johnson-WR
Sam Baker-OL
Red Bryant-NT
Chevis Jackson-CB
Ben Patrick-TE
Wesley Woodyard-SS
DJ Hall-KR
Jack Ikeg....-CB
09 #1 from Miami

Now I think I have proper value set on the trades. And dont say it, because I dont play Madden. These veterans can fit in $$ and in the locker room.Maybe Bryant,Hall or Ikeg go a little earlier, but most mocks have them in these areas. As a veteran team we stick with our philosophy of not taking LBs(to our mutual distraction).
We do manage to get a #1 for next year, likely in a spot where Rey might be! Realize that Spikes, Seau and Colvin are still FAs, and might be brought in/back at some point. Other LBs like Brooking may well be released before camp too so if we get Taylor and Hobson this offseason is tolerable.

OK-Now what do you guys think?? I will post my more serious one next week.

Why Ben Patrick? Favorite of yours? Belichick had countless chances to draft him last year. He could have had him in the sixth round. But now he's going to trade a fourth rounder for him? That makes no sense. Patrick hasn't shown much on the field...he's been a reserve TE for the Cards and he considerably worse than Spach in the blocking game.

Besides...who makes a trade, let alone a #4 pick, for a "third tight end"? Isn't that what the draft/vet minimum FA are for? Just a curious, curious trade.

And as talented as he is, I really don't want the Chad Johnson show on this team.

I strenuously object to the characterization of Chad Jackson as "addition by subtraction". He's not a bum. He's not a malcontent. He's a promising young receiver coming off an injury.

On the plus side, I do like the draft picks that were actually used on draftees.

Didn't he lose a bet and couldn't post here anymore as a result?

Wouldnt it be fun? To trade for future picks would essentially make it legal gambling between Tuna and BB!! We hook them up with their QB, they give us a "head start" and we develop a new rivalry so we can put the JESTS to bed. Those games would certainly be alot more meaningful for both sides!

It's JEST, singular--after all, the team is just one big joke.
