Sounds to me like he has the ability to be a solid contributor as an inside linebacker in the 3-4, but for him to be a Patriot he'd have to have an attitude adjustment.

Hope it's okay to bump an old one.

Beau Bell is the ILB I most want in this draft. He's been super-productive in the 3-4 (same college as Ryan Claridge), and due to a number of issues (his slow timed 40, his projection as a 3-4 player, and a knee bruise issue) I think he will drop and become great value in the mid to late rounds.

Of course the big knock along with his timed 40, is his apparent learning disability. That's quite likely the reason they brought him in for a visit.

He does seem like a really good kid though.

Various quotes by him, and about him.
"Beau Bell made a decision in the spring and summer to be a great player and he went out and made that a reality in the fall," said UNLV head coach Mike Sanford. "He gave us both great performance and leadership and will leave that legacy for the future of this program."

"But when asked why he has only one locker, Bell says, "Because I'm not a star, bro."

"Beau Bell is anything but regular. He is the coaches' example of a blue-collar worker. He is not flashy, he just knows how to get the job done," said sophomore safety Ryan Tillman.

"I will just be blessed to be able to continue playing football. That's what my dream was, to play in the National Football League".

On his slow 40 time:
"I just think he's not built to be a sprinter. He's not a track star; he's a football player".

Bell, projected as an insider linebacker in a 3-4 defense, said a review of his films would "show teams how much I absolutely love this game of football.''

"They know what I'm capable of, and I just appreciate them coming out here and working me out. I did my best out here, and they know that."

He showed up slow and flabby for the biggest job interview of his life. Given the time window from the end of the college season to the Senior Bowl/combine, he didn't demonstrate his "love" and dedication to football. He can talk the talk, but he certainly didn't walk the walk. Actually given his time, maybe he did.

He certainly showed up slow, but coming off a knee injury that's not overly surprising.

Flabby? I don't know about that. I certainly have neither seen it, nor read about it anywhere.

He wasn't flabby. That's just b.s. He was in shape. He just isn't a burner. Not many thumper-type ILBs are. I'd rather have a guy that can shed blocks and stop runners in their tracks (Ted Johnson) than a guy that can run fast (Monty Beisel).

I really, really wanted to love Bell, who has the build and physical tools I look for. But the closer I looked, the lower he dropped in my estimation. In addition to the lousy workouts and the learning problems--which are an issue at such a mentally demanding position--reports on his attitude and work ethic are worrisome...

NFLDraftcountdown:
Leadership abilities and work ethic have been questioned

NFLDraftScout:
Needs to develop better work habits, as he is known for his dislike for practices and needs direction and monitoring when it comes to his training regimen...Will not play through injuries...Some view this as an excuse to not practice, as there have been those who have questioned his mental toughness and his ability to play hard if he thinks he is not completely healthy

I have alot of "rules" and every year I break them. Beau Bell is deficient in so many areas: his workouts were poor, his health status unclear, his level of competition less than ideal, his intelligence, work habits and leadership called into question.

But there is one area where he makes the grade: he has an obvious on field love of violence. He enjoys the hell out of hitting people. And that goes a long way.

For that reason, and his imposing natural size, he is on my 6th rd radar as a special teams/project pick. There are just very few prospects who revel in the violence of the game like Beau Bell, and there's late rd value in that. If J. McClain from Syracuse is already gone by the end of rd 6, I would roll the dice on Bell, lock him in a weight room with Woicik for a year, and see what comes out. My guess is a 6'2'' 255 lb monster.

He won't make it through the fourth round, maybe not the third.

Why is that? Is he planning to stop off for pizza or something?
