Assuming we stay in the 7-10 range, who could you see us taking that seems a little nutty.
Mine is Clemson DE Phillip Merling. With Seymour out a lot and Green best as a situational pass rusher, a top backup DE who can rotate in and be a legit starter when guys are out or Seymour moves on, it would be a surprise but not a shock to me. He's a great competitor, play to the whistle guy and and 6'5", 280 has the size potential to be a great 3-4 DE.
Again, I don't expect this but they way Belichick likes big guys I wouldn't be shocked either.

I've never been one to question BB et al's drafting prowess, since they know far more than I do and they've had great success. That said, this year above all others I would be frustrated if they "got cute" with the pick. Assuming Asante is gone and we don't bring in a comparable veteran, drafting a cornerback is the clear #1 priority for this team. If things remain as many expect and they draft someone who isn't a corner, I'll be disappointed. I saw this knowing full well that BB likes to find CBs later in the draft, but they said the same thing about RBs until Maroney.

Sedric Ellis. I don't know where they'd line him up, and who they'd take off the field (4-3 base?), but Belichick has to be impressed with his size/athleticism combo

Along the same lines as mine but I have a feeling Ellis and Dorsey will both be gone.

Mine is Miami DE Calais Campbell. Not currently rated by most draft sites in the top 10 but he has rare freakish size and good speed that can't be found in the later rounds. I'd love to trade down and still get him, but it would not surprise me if the Pats "reach" for a physical specimen like this who does not come around often, especially if the Longs and Gholston are gone by the time we pick and we can't find a trading partner to trade down with.
I have two: one being Keith Rivers whom, I just love but he's a bit small for the 3-4, but this guy just makes play after play. The second person is Glen Dorsey. I just see him falling come draft day. He's not a 3-4 tackle, but he's a playmaker. You can never have enough depth on the line and the Patriots have alot. I just don't think I would pass him up if he falls to #7. Sedrick Ellis could be the first DT off the board, and that may cause Big Glen to fall. Ideas?

I am with you on that,dude...Bill has suprise us before...I know this would be one of the biggest suprise...Bill will takes the best value on the board....How long to the draft????
Mark my words, the Pats rookie class looks something like this:
1. FS Kenny Phillips, Miami
2. CB Brandon Flowers, VT
3a. LB Phillip Wheeler, GT
3b. OL Mike McGlynn, Pittsburgh
4. HB/TE/FB Owen Schmitt, WV
5. WR Eddie Royal, VT
6. DB Tyvon Branch, UConn
7. LB Thomas Williams, USC
As overrated as I believe Kenny Phillips is, and as much as I believe it's foolish to go safety with 2 consectutive first round picks, I'd take this draft. Of course I'd like it more with Gholston or a CB with the first pick...
