Default Do the Pats Need a pass rushing OLB?

A specialist?
A ware/merriman type player?

Is our current OLB pass rush acceptable?

YES.......and NO

It's not about LB rush...The philoshophy of "bending but not a breaking" D is fine if you have yound players who provide depth behind veterans. Hoever, to expect it to last the entire season with just veterans like we have is foolhardy. A Good Front 7 = good Secondary.

Two years in a row this has been proven out to BB. He got schooled in this SB by his younger version/clone Spagnuolo

Did anybody see how clean Eli's jersey was Sunday night?

We need a beast to rush the passer. This past season, Colvin got hurt, Vrabel went MIA after the bye week, Woods had a rookie strip him of a gift fumble recovery in the SB, and although Thomas was a beast the last 2 minutes of the game, (MIA for the first 58 minutes), he needs to go back inside next season.

If Colvin returns, we are golden. Otherwise, search for a cheap 1 trick pony.

Colvin has learned how to set the edge really well and can obviously rush the passer. We clearly missed him.

It seems as if, there was always a PAT 2-3 feet away from Eli, with arms flailing trying to make the play.

We need finishers who blow up the tackle a la LT, merriman, Ware, and finish the play. Hell, look at the giants DEs and what they did to us.
When they were within striking distance they finished.

We lack finishers on the edge.
Let our veterans set the edge during base defensive plays.
But when it's third and 6, we need finishers who can pancake/overpower/speed the tackle and make the play.

C Long is a closer/finisher. He might go at #1 to Miami.

Two tweeners coming out of college with a proven track record for closing and finishing are Davis of UCLA and Groves of Auburn.

Niether is really first round material bacause they are 1 trick ponies. However I feel better about both these guys than I do about Gholston.

Without a good pass rush, you need an all star team of

defensive backs.

1. It's easy to gameplan vs only one edge rusher (Vrabel)

2. If Woods was ready to provide some pass rush -- he would've done so by now -- given the opportunities

3. Thomas does belong inside regardless of his versatility. An impact edge rusher he is not.

As has been mentioned, since Colvin's injury our pass rush has been weakened. Translation: There's no one on the current roster capable of replacing the pass rush abilities of either Colvin or Vrabel. Draft one NOW.

we need a stud rushing LB to go with Vrabel and Colvin.

bring one in would make those guys and the secondary that much better.
