I think they are certainly putting out feelers as part of their due diligence in case a player drops and they can trade up for value but it's the perfect storm that somebody like Dallas will take under value such as 17 + 74 for 9 and that the player(s) they are targeting make it there. Certainly they could easily recoup 74 later by using 28 and 33 which should be sweet-spots in this draft.
Breer speculated that their isn't that elite player who will be worth trading up from 17 to 9 or 10 as rumored so the Pats will likely trade down to the mid 20's furthering their position of strength to pick up the players they want there with no drop off in talent while still being able to trade out of 28 and\or 33. I think this is likely and if they went say Wilkerson with one pick and traded into next year with another and picked up any of OLB\OT\OG\WR with the 3rd it would be fine with me. That would still leave them a ton of other picks to fill in the roster.

There's only two conclusions for Patriots fans on rookies. They are either a bust or being fitted for their bust in Canton.

Isn't Von Miller way to small to play 3-4 OLB? Plus trading up THAT high is too costly.
If Quinn gets to 10 though...
TBC is 6-2 250 while Miller is 6-3 246. He is on the smaller side, but he could fit on the Pats. Especially with his athletic ability.

I think the lowest Miller could fall is to 5th overall. The Pats certainly have enough to get him, but it will cost alot. Here are a few possibilities for a trade to #5.
The Pats have 17 and 28 which equals 1600+ points which is good enough to move up for a 5 or 6 pick....that is a simple draft scenario without any further movement

I read the tweet, vague is the best way to describe it. Don't get your hopes about moving into the top 10. We have a decade of background about Belichek drafts. The most he ever has traded to move up is a mid 3rd round selection. Ever. Using our first third round pick will bring us up from 17 to about 13, our 28 to about 19, and our 33 to about 21.
This is just the front office doing their diligence, predraft, in case they see someone they like falling. JMO.

Yep, every year NE is looking to move up for the big score, and every year people are moaning and whining because NE traded back. It happens every Spring.
Only thing, though, is that the Pats don't always have to ammunition to trade way up in the draft without giving up future first round picks. The Pats have that ammunition this year. IMO, it's either going to be for Miller or Dareus. I can't see us trading up to get a WR.

Your nickel back plays about 75pct of the plays these days. Peterson would be doing that his rookie year. And, starting his 2nd year. Bodden playing the nickel in 2012.
I'd be OK with this if they thought they could trade Bodden. Bodden, McCourty, and Peterson @ his likely draft spot is a huge percentage of cap room to devote to cornerbacks -- and there will be at least two others, probably Butler and that guy from the practice squad.
