Default Potential Patriots WTF? Moment at #17

Let's face it, last year there was probably a feeling of when Devin McCourtey's name was announced. As it turned out it was a masterstroke from BB as we drafted a potential career pro-bowl shutdown corner. However, at the time not many people probably had Devin pencilled in at the pick. This got me to thinking:

1. Is there a realistic chance of a WTF? moment at 17 this year or do you feel our needs are obvious and the number of realistic picks is relatively small ?

2. If there is a WTF? moment at 17 who do you think it might be ? Is there a running back, safety, WR or whatever who would represent good value in BB's eyes and may be worth a 17 to the coach. Could he stick with the OLB/DE/OL positions but pick someone who others had going lower ?

I will admit that on my draft board the morning of last year's draft I had McCourtey circled, the only player circled, just wanted to throw that in

I actually doubt a WTF moment this year as our top need is DE and there just happens to be a good group of DE. So like the Seymour, Warren and Wilfork picks, I expect the 1a pick to be solid and expected (Wilfork wasn't expected to dropt that far but once he did the pick was predictable).

If I HAD to make a WTF pick I'll go WAY out on a limb and say a trade up from #17 to around #12 to take Julio Jones who would be a perfect WR for this offense IMO. I don't expect it but if we don't take a DL or OL at 1a then almost anything would surprise me. Jones, Price, Edelman would be an interesting group moving forward with Welker and Branch entering their contract years this year.

There are enough possibilities people are talking seriously about at #17 that it's a little hard to find a WTF candidate. For instance, I don't think any of these would qualify as a real WTF:

Watt
Wilkerson
Jordan
Kerrigan
A. Smith
T. Smith
Costanzo
Solder
Ingram
Pouncey

So...maybe an OLB other than Miller, Smith & Kerrigan, like Sheard or Reed?

I would say WTF to Wilkerson, T Smith, Castonzo, Pouncey and Liuget if selected.

If they took Solder I'd be like, Boy, they must project him as the ultimate stud, and I'd go with it.

I suppose they could draft a TE at #17, but I seriously doubt it.

However, I guarantee TV's go through windows if it happens.

Any offensive "skill" position, really, Ingram included.

What if Julio Jones fell to 17?

For me Ayers or Houston would be not very good.
