Default Bust watch: who is this year's JaMarcus Russell?

There has to some time bombs in this year draft class but who are they? Who will forget about practicing and studying once they get their signing bonus and start buying fur coats? Whose stock has been inflated by being surrounded by superior talent or coaching?

JaMarcus did not work out at the Combine. But that should have been a hint. [It would be interesting to see how guys that who did not work out did once they were in the NFL. It shows a lack of confidence or they are trying to cover something up.]

One thing I see in a lot of QB busts is that the can throw the ball a mile and pundits get all excited about this while forgetting about accuracy and consistency and escapability.

As far as WRs some get drafted too high when they put up exotic 40 times.

Why Cam Newton, of course! He might have more Tim Tebow in him than Russell, but either way teams are a lot more gun shy about drafting Newton with the recent experience of Russell fresh in their minds.

I think we're going to have a lot of "Bingos" because there's going to be a lot of busts this year. If you gave me Mallet, Kaepernick, Newton, Locker the only one of those that I think *might* be a starter in five years is Locker. And I doubt he'll be a good starter. I think the only legit top-5 QB might be Dalton and he won't go in round 1 (or possibly even round 2.) But I bet he turns out to be the best of the bunch, though who knows how good.

And that's only the QB position.

This draft scares me, frankly. Maybe I'm just being uber-negative, though.

Bingo! My initial thought was "Ryan Mallet" but the Russell comparison wouldnt be accurate because it seems that people know he's a clown and won't be picked very early. Newton could very well be the 1st pick or he could be a late 1st rounder, someone will take a chance on him and I think they'll get a nightmare on their hands, someone who wants to be thought of like a LeBron James (when he was still a superstar in Cleveland) or Obama (before he was elected when the Kool-Aid machine was running at full capacity) but doesn't want to do ANY of the grunt work needed to take his game to a higher level.

Marcell Dareus will never be a player considered worthy of a top 10 pick.

If "bust" = failure to live up to expectations, I'm not sure that anyone in the is draft aside from possibly AJ Green can live up to the expectations of a #1 overall pick. Seems extremely improbable that any of these QBs will. There are a lot of questions about Prince and Pat. Can either Fairley or Dareus put up Suh-like numbers for the Panthers? And, if they don't come close?

Let's say Carolina takes Fairley and he becomes a 40-50 tackles/3-5 sacks per year D-line anchor for them for the next 12 seasons and never misses a game while Green becomes the next (insert your GOAT WR here). There will be Panther fans arguing that, "Yeah, Fairley's been solid, but you take a guy like that later, not with the #1 overall. He's a bust. They shoulda taken Green."
