Default Would you draft Dwayne Jarrett?

If a guy of this caliber slipped to us, despite us signing some WRs this offseason (2 of them to 1 year deals essentially)... would you take him?

He's slipping for a reason. 4.62 and 4.67 in his pro day. Doesn't say a great deal about his work ethic if he's not in shape at such an important moment in his career development. He sounds like LenDale White.

Unless he got to pick #91, I wouldn't even call it "slipping to us". I think he'll definitely be there at #24, and possibly #60 if we still had it. So, no, I wouldn't draft him.

It's not just the 40 times...reports from the USC pro day say Jarrett looked stiff and dropped some balls, and his 3-cone time (arguably the key number for a Pats receiver) was a sluggish 7.28 -- an acceptable time for, say, a run-stopping ILB. If he slides, he's earned it.

According to scout.com his non running performance was very good :

"According to sources both Jarrett and Smith looked outstanding catching the ball"

If his 3 cone was 7.28, that's bad. A similarly sized Meachem had a 6.97. OTOH, Meachem's shuttle was 4.31 and Jarrett's as reportedly between 4.14 and 4.20.

FWIW, Chad Jackson had a 4.03 and 6.74 on the shuttle and 3 cone respectively.

Huh, I'm curious which report is more accurate! Here's one I read:

http://www.dailybreeze.com/sports/articles/6764032.html
"Jarrett's pass-catching workout wasn't smooth, either. His cuts weren't nearly as sharp as Smith, and he slipped and fell on one. A scout for an AFC team described Jarrett, who is 6-foot-5 and 214 pounds, as stiff."

Well your report was more detailed, the line I presented was pretty much all that was there about that aspect.

I'd rather take Gonzalez if we had to take a WR. But we don't. I want to see the draft be about the defensive side of the ball. No RBs either. Sammy Morris is a very capable runner to take the pressure off of Maroney.

We can draft him at #91 and just let him sit in the end zone and throw jump balls to him all day.
