Default New Kirwan Mock

This looks awful... He has us trading 24 to New Orleans for 27 (and probably something else I didn't read that much of it) and taking Anthony Spencer there and Ryan Kalil at 28. Not that I'd be surprised if it happened, I wouldn't be happy with this at all. Another OLB and a C? Doesn't make sense.

What does Kirwan know that I don't? Didn't the Pats just lock up their center and unless every corner, safety and Pat Willis is gone, why would they take Spencer?

The more I see of these mocks, the more I just want nothing to do with the first round. Then again, NO better give up a 3rd rounder or 4th rounder.

I saw this article on Sunday and was absolutely stunned this is so far off and I like Kirwin but he is way off on this one IMO. This is the year to add to very good players to your defense and I am convinced this is where they are going. I would love to see Aaron Ross or Michael Griffin from Texas and Beason from Miami at LB. I am not a Poz fan so I hope they don't go in that direction. Beason is a tackling machine with speed. Ross a pretty good cover guy with speed and is also a pretty good PR/KR so hopefully this is the direction they are heading. But to be honest I haven't picked one of their #1s since BB has been here.

Any draft with trades in it is going to be awful. Sometimes think these mocks pick someone who we wouldn't expect just to get a rise out of everyone. Either that or they are absolutely clueless.

IMO have said all along might use a 1st on an OL, never can have enough quality depth here...

Red face Re: New Kirwan Mock

The trade included a 4th also but think we can make a better deal and add a pick this year and next. Those are both good players and Kalil was impressive at combine but we HAVE TO GET A DB in the first.

I think that's probably true. I could certainly see us taking a beast tackle if one is available in the first round, but I think the extension to Koppen plus the availability of a very sound back up in Hochstein who has served the Pats very well in the past make it unlikely that we will spend a first rounder on a center.

I will say this, Kirwan chose two guys who fit the Patriots system, which is much more consideration than most mockers give. This might be the only mock I've seen that I could say that both 1st round picks are "Patriots-type players".

Good points. 2 players not at the top of any one's lists and if no one wants to trade down with us or into next year, I could see it being 'possible' and living with it.

Sure you can. Would you be okay with us drafting 10 OL in the draft? Of course not.

Every time you acquire quality depth at one position, it means another position did not receive depth.

The key to a good team is balance.

We already have more OLs under contract than will make the team. That isn't true of ILB, S or CB.

That's why Kirwan's mock doesn't make sense to me. Especially the center. We just extended Koppen and Hochstein, and have Mruc under contract (and even if he is cut he has been part of our shadow roster for years). Just do not see BB drafting an OC in first round.
