Question You Are the Pats GM, How do you draft

for the 2007 draft? Assume you are running the whole draft. How do you draft based on ratios by position?

For example, assume the Pats end up with 10 choices. If you draft based on where you think the team needs the most help by position, how much of an emphasis do you place on the team's need at that position based on a percentage? The example below assumes an equal need at all positions for illustration purposes. Adding all percentages must total 100%. How would you change the percentages below based on your knowledge of team needs and how you would like to see the mix in the coming draft?:

Defense
DL = 10%
ILB = 10%
OLB = 10%
SS/FS = 10%
CB = 10%

Offense
OL = 10%
TE = 10%
WR = 10%
RB/FB = 10%
QB = 10%

Total for all positions must = 100%

If I had to draft this year, I'd go:

ILB: 35%
OLB: 10%
SS/FS: 25%
CB: 15%
OL: 10%
TE: 5%

If I could trade some picks to next year (w/ bonus), I would do that, as well.

Obviously some things could continue to change in FA... and you have to go w/ BPA (if a true #1 rated DL falls to 24, how could you not take him?)... but you're basing this on need, I'd guess.

Agree except for one minor tweak. I wouldn't mind seeing a de in round 3 or 4. I'd like to end the Marquise Hill experiment. And, get someone who can play. Our DL was gassed in Indy, lack of depth hurt us.

Trade both firsts for 08 firsts, giving us three 08 firsts.

Pick up a couple of 3rd rounds as comp for trading a year and utilize the value on saftey and maybe a RB in the third.

Then in 08 have the option of paying a franchise tag value for Polamalu, Tillman should they be franchised.

I'm of the thinking we do not need either 1sts this year as its a bad value draft for 1sts.

"Trade both firsts for 08 firsts, giving us three 08 firsts."

You know; that may not be a bad idea...think about it.
With the additions this year in FA and our later round picks it could be a idea.
Image us winning the SB this year and staring 3 picks next year...WOW

We have to think about what we will be doing next year at FS (Wilson is a FA) and SS (Rodney retiring?). We also have to think about ILB (Brushci retiring next year). It would be nice to have everything set up for next year.
