I'm already reading notes on how Timmons hurt himself with his slow 40, let alone the fact that he's not one of the 240-ish fellows we might normally expect the Pats to covet for LB.

Meachem was linked to us before, he helped himself quite a bit - too bad that I don't really like spending first round pennies on WR and expect the Pats to find one later in the draft.

Agreed on both issues, and especially in a draft that is very strong at WR, why would the Pats use a #1 on a WR?

The highest WR choice that won't have me vomiting in my mouth will be our 2nd round pick...and even then only if someone we like has slid to that spot.

Put me down for rounds 3-4 for our first WR and one more on day 2.

Timmons didnt have a bad 40..he ran a 4.59..thats VERY good actually..its just that people expected 4.4 and that. Certainyl didnt perform as well as he could have but hes a great player..hes raw but you cant teach athletism and true LB mentality. Being raw can be good..teach a man how to play any spot in 3-4 and hes got experience b/c FSU played 25% 3-4

Timmons is 6' 234, I'd be really surprised if he was selected to play for the Pats in a 3-4.

I know some of these combine weights are quite lean. For instance, Spencer weighed in at 262 (I think) but said he played at 270 last year. I'd be interested to know what Timmons played at.

BOR, you have said no to WRs in the first round and also to LBs (Bradley the possible exception). Where is your inclination at this point then?

Personally, I think there will be good value at WR and DB at 24/28 and it's just a case of finding a good match for the Pats. There may also be OL value there, but don't see the Pats going that direction. And Carriker will be off the board.

I don't know that I've said no to WRs, I just haven't said yes.

What I want at 24 and 28 are players exactly like the ones taken in past draft classes. I want a player who will run the length and width of a football field at 5k+ feet and prevent a TD. I want a player who will completely retool himself in the off-season program and come in to have a record year in sacks and tackles. I want a player 40 lbs smaller than the OL guys, those same OL who say he's the best blocker on the team. I want a player who gets noticed by Dr. Z (a reporter I dislike, but he does look at OL as more than window dressing) and described as All-Pro in his second year.

Those are the type of players I'm trying to find, and why I look at small-ish LBs and schizophrenic DBs and WRs, and shake my head. I may be disappointed in my search, hopefully BB and SP won't.
