I would totally watch Denver games if this happened, I'm thinking that with Charlie Weis as OC in KC he's going to want his guy, Clausen, as QB, not Cassel, who was more of a McDaniels guy. Orton is probably a stopgap in Denver and I'm sure McDaniels would love to have Cassel back, so what if KC were to draft Clausen, and trade Cassel to Denver in exchange for their 1st round pick.
What say you?

There is no way Denver would trade a 1st for a player who KC traded a 2nd for, and didn't exactly prove his worth!
1 - Cassel proved his worth under McDaniels, KC was basketcase team last year so I'd be willing to cut MC some slack.
2 - It doesn't matter how much KC paid for Cassel, only his potential worth to Denver, do you care what the car dealership paid for the car you want if they're selling it to you at a good price.
3 - They can always alter the price, maybe it's Cassel and a 2nd or 3rd in exchange for their first.
The main point is that Cassel would probably have more value for Denver and Clausen more for KC.

It won't happen because the cap penalties for trading Cassel would be too heavy. KC is married to Cassel for the foreseeable future. Now they need to surround him with a good OL and decent offensive weapons.

2) Why would Jmac give up a first for Cassel now when he wouldnt last year?
- The money matters less in an uncapped year.
- Apparently the Cassel trade was done before McDaniels had a serious chance to move on the deal, also McDaniels might have thought he could make due with Orton, perhaps this season has convinced him Orton won't get him to the promised land.

What is Orton a stopgap to? Is there anything in the Denver QB development pool?

I don't know if there is, McDaniels might be trying to address some other things before getting THE QB because Orton is good enough for the time being but not ultimately the guy he thinks is going to win them a Superbowl, or maybe he wants more than one season with Orton to make that determination.
I think that can be a very smart thing to do, I would have built an O-line in in Detroit before drafting a 1st round QB like Stafford but I also would have rested Stafford until he was healthy after he was injured, but that insane management is why the Lions suck.

If McDaniels continues to work with Orton, while improving the defense through the draft, maybe Orton could be a SB team sooner rather than later.
After all, McDaniels did win 11 games with a seventh round draft pick, who took very few snaps in college, at QB.
