Flipping the channels last night and caught an interview with Harrison and Woodley. Woodley is a beast, he towered over Harrision.... one of the woulda coulda shoulda moments. Merriweather versus Woodley, still feel the same way as I did during that draft, take Woodley please !!!

We could have gotten David Harris and L Woodley the same year. I'm not saying that Harris is better than Mayo, not at all, but i might take the combination of Harris and Woodly over Mayo.

I don't remember off hand how exactly we got Moss, in fact i don't think we get Moss if we used both #1's.

If thats true i'd take Mayo/Moss over Harris/Woodley.

Great pick. Steelers deserve all the credit for taking him. I wanted him for the Pats too. I'm hoping Burgess can be a poor man's version of Woodley for us.

The Steelers do a tremendous job of taking LBers and stashing them for a year or two and then bringing them back as starters. Maybe if BB had invested in this type program when our former LBers were in their prime, we would not have just a miserable situation now.
I still not not figure out why BB is so hung up on veteran LBers. Is assignment responsibility more important than talent?

The Steelers do a nice job of developing LBs. I think we could learn a few things from them.

Woodley is on a short list of a half dozen or so prospects over the past 5 years who I really wanted the Pats to take, and who we passed on. I'm not talking top 10 prospects or players that we never had a chance of, but late 1st or 2nd round guys who were well scouted and considered to be solid Pats-type prospects, but who we let by. The following come to mind:

2009 - Connor Barwin, DE/LB (I know, but he's still my binky). Went #46 to Houston after we passed on him several times.
2007 - Lamarr Woodley, DE/LB - went #46 to Pittsburgh.
2006 - DeAngelo Williams, RB - went #27 to Carolina after we took Maroney at #21.
2006 - Greg Jennings, WR - went #52 to Green Bay after we traded #52 and #75 to move up to #36 for WR Chad Jackson (still hurts).
2006 - Richard Marshall, CB - a popular pre-draft choice for the Pats at #21, went #58 to Carolina.
2004 - Karlos Dansby, LB - went to Arizona at #33 after we took Ben Watson at #32.

In 2006 alone we could have drafted DeAngelo Williams at 21, Greg Jennings at 52, and probably traded up from 75 to get Richard Marshall. Imagine a starting WR group of Moss, Welker in Jennings, an LB foursome of Woodley, Mayo, Dansby and Thomas, and a long-term starting CB duo of Marshall and Butler. Not to mention DeAngelo Williams in the backfield. Sigh.

Trying to stay optimistic... you never know if those players would have the same success on the Pats.

Oh, I'm optimistic, particularly since we seem to be doing a better job with our 2nd round picks based on the limited results so far from the 2009 draft. I'm particularly optimistic as we have 3 2nd round picks coming up in 2010.

BB is frustrating sometimes. We spend January to April identifying Pats LB type guys. (Big guys that can run! as per BB himself) And then BB takes a Watson (who didn't do squat in college) instead of Dansby.
