Mock Draft VII: Smith moves into top spot - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

It's another pretty good mock. I agree with a lot of their picks:

- Sanchez to Seattle at #4
- Wells to the Saints
- Jackson to the Chargers
- Freeman to the Bucs
- Pettigrew to the Eagles
- Nicks to the Giants
- Gilbert as an option for Tennessee at #30 - great possible replacement for Haynesworth
- Moreno to Arizon at 31
- Mack to Pittsburgh at 32

I don't see Stafford to SF at #10, and I think Laurinaitis is a better fit at MLB for Detroit than Maualuga. Clint Sintim at 73 seems very low to me, and probably Cody Brown at 95 as well (I could see Brown at 73 though).

If you swap Laurinaitis and Maualuga, then I like the draft a lot. Barwin at #23 and Maualuga at 34 would be excellent. I would personally prefer Louis Delmas at 47 and Jamon Meredith at 57 to their picks (Eric Wood at 47 and Patrick Chung at 58) but it's arguable. I love James Casey at 89. Get rid of the Macho Harris pick at 97 and substitute TJ Lang or one of the remaining DT's (Chris Baker or Sammie Lee Hill) and I love it:

23 - Connor Barwin, OLB
34 - Rey Maualuga, ILB
47 - Louis Delmas, S
58 - Jamon Meredith, OT
89 - James Casey, TE/H-back
97 - TJ Lang, OL or Chris Baker/Sammie Lee Hill, DT

A little OT:
Something tells me that the Bengals drafting Andre Smith would probably end setting them back. I could definitely be wrong. I'd expect their front office to be image sensitive and steer clear with their #6 pick.

I love this draft. Its first four picks are who I wanted to draft in my ideal draft. The Pats get an OLB and ILB the two positions of absolute need, and an interior developmental choice for the OL, and a tough Safety. This should complete the rebuilding of the LB corps in a year with good LB prospects of sufficient size for the Patriots Defense.

The later picks are for players who play good football, but not the best athletes. That is fine for reserves.

Add an OT at 124 (Murtha ?) and this is a fine draft. My preference is Gilbert at 23, but you can't have everything.

I am not sold on taking a TE early in this draft and going with 4 solid TEs into the season. I would have changed the pick and taken an OT (though there are none I like at that spot, argh!)

I think that most of us trade 89 to upgrade another pick or into 2010. Casey provides value at 89, if Belichick wants to try again for a H-back. In any case, Casey could beat out Thomas for a roster spot or take the vacant FB position.
