Default Javorskie Lane - Good Late Round Pick?

Okay ... I'm pretty much out of the draft talk loop lately. Out of football talk also ... working way too much But every year I wish for 1 thing in the later rounds ... a huge FB ... old school football.

So for this year my target is Javorskie Lane - 5'11" and 295 lb FB who supposedly runs a 4.7. While not the greatest runner he is huge now if he could be taught to tackle and block just a bit perhaps he's worth a 6th or 7th round pick. Okay site experts ... does Bill take a chance or will Javorskie end up a Steeler?

No, BB looks elsewhere for his FB. Lane wasn't very impressive in the Shrine Game, if I recall correctly he was out of shape. Check out the FBs from LSU and Syracuse.

He was out of shape all season for whatever reason. Last year he was a 270-lb touchdown machine. I'd sign him UDFA, but I'm not sure what else he can do to carve out a niche on this team.

I personally enjoyed Hochstein blowing people up and hope it continues this year. At 6'4" 300lbs I just like his size better not to mention what I saw him do with NFL LB's at the end of last season. I am a little worried about H. Evans leaving and wondered if D. Thomas would be able to make the move to FB in order to help the team. He is still young at 25 y/o and with some good hands so it may be worth giving him a look there as we did sign Baker. I am probably in left field here but just a thought.

I've always liked Thomas. HE catches the ball when it is thrown to him, it just never gets thrown to him.

I don't know if he can't get open (hard to believe) or if he is in the dog house or just runs routes like Donald Hayes and Donte Stallworth.

The LSU fullback is very good. I can't see us drafting a FB.

I think we are set with Hochstein and Baker (or Thomas), but there's always room for UFA.

I had him as a binkie after his junior season, too much Buffet World as a senior. It is hard enough to give a roster spot to a full back let alone one who can't play special teams. I say No.

I think we're going to see the FB position as a labelled spot disappear this year, with extra TE's and Hochstein, and maybe BJGE.

If by some cosmic weirdism Peppers turns up here, he can also play FB.

I think there's a major move here to make even better use of each roster spot (except Long-Snapper, hehe). At least the old guy could cook.

Weight issues could hurt Jorvorskie Lane in NFL Draft | College Sports | Star-Telegram.com

Was at about 295 at the Shrine Game. Looked slow and somehow lacking punch in his runs. Got stuffed on the goal line.

the guys posters are talking about (either of whom is worth a fifth-rounder):
Quinn Johnson*|*LSU,*FB*:*2009 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile
Tony Fiammetta*|*Syracuse,*FB*:*2009 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile

While having Hochstein at FB was kind of fun, it happened vs. Arizona during a blizzard and its effectiveness over a full season should be questioned. If the Pats want to get serious about running the ball, they should think about Fiammetta or Johnson, especially now that Evans has left. I give Evans credit for improving his blocking immensely while in NE, but either of these guys would provide a step up. Plus, they can run the ball and push the pile, something Hochstein, Thomas and Evans can't really do.

My dos centavos.
