4. I know that Bill Johnson, the Broncos’ defensive line coach, is scheduled to meet with the Saints, Seahawks and Packers this week. And his meeting with the Packers will center on the 3-4. Going back and forth between the 3-4 and the 4-3 is not hard to do if you have someone who can play over center, and the Packers do in Ryan Pickett.
5. I know if Jason Garrett gets the head coaching job in Denver, he wants Dom Capers of the Patriots, and formerly of the Dolphins, as his defensive coordinator.
FIVE THINGS I HEAR….
2. I hear the Packers are committed to becoming a 3-4 defense. This must mean Mike Nolan is coming on board very soon.
3. I hear the Lions are looking to talk with Atlanta offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey about becoming their head coach. This might be good news since all the good young quarterbacks — Matthew Stafford of Georgia, Josh Freeman of Kansas State and Sam Bradford of Oklahoma – will soon declare for the NFL Draft.
The Browns have worked out a deal to hire former Jets head coach Eric Mangini to lead a team that finished a disappointing 4-12 this season, FOXSports.com has learned.
-----
When Mangini met with owner Randy Lerner, sources say the owner was extremely pleased with the coach’s preparation, strategic planning and also heard very good feedback about him from several people within the Jets organization.
Raiders' Ryan, Jets' Daboll could be Mangini's top assistants with Browns

Browns coach Eric Mangini is expected to hire currents Jets quarterbacks coach Brian Daboll as his offensive coordinator, a source close to the situation told the Plain Dealer Wednesday.
He also plans to hire Raiders defensive coordinator Rob Ryan as his defensive coordinator, ESPN's Michael Smith reported Wednesday night on WKNR AM/850.
Report: Chiefs Offer Pioli GM Job
by primetime 07 on Jan 7, 2009 6:35 PM CST
610 Sports is reporting that the Kansas City Chiefs have offered Scott Pioli the job of general manager. Sources to 610 Sports say the two sticking points include money and control over football operations, specifically the coaching staff.

NFL teams with 3-4 defenses:
New England
Miami
Pittsburgh
Cleveland
Dallas
Arizona
San Diego
NYJ????
San Francisco????
Green Bay????
Denver???? (down the road if Capers goes there with McDaniel or Garret)

Junior QBs declaring: If Bradford declares, then he and Stafford are two QBs looking at 1st round grades, helping to push two more quality players down towards the Patriots' pick. It is possible they impact the Cassel sweepstakes, but I doubt it will be by much - if anything Pioli has good ammo to bid for Cassel with the Chiefs #34 pick in this draft and one or more future picks.

I'd change AZ and Denver, and put the Ravens in there.
Ravens are 4-3, Ray Lewis needed bodyguards to help him get his stats.
AZ is transitioning to a 3-4.

I think the USC QB M.Sanchez might leave too. He'd be thrown into the mix. Would make 3 qb's gone before we pick. Given Ryan and Flacco's success. I think teams will be more inclined to take a qb. I'm on record as saying Detroit should draft linemen and trade for
Cassel. But, I can see them, KC, Minny, SF, ST.L and Sea. considering a qb.
Broncos unveil new head coach
Team owner Pat Bowlen introduces Josh McDaniels at Dove Valley on Monday
By Mike Klis
The Denver Post
-----
This was a rare football news conference that presented so many newsy developments. Aside from McDaniels' debut, former Broncos assistant Mike Nolan was about to become the team's new defensive coordinator.
"I have talked to Josh, although I haven't talked to him since he arrived in Denver," Nolan said Monday night. "I think its a wonderful thing that they have going on in Denver. I'm looking forward to it if we can get it worked out."
Also, the Broncos are about to transform their defense, gradually at first, but fully in time, from a four defensive linemen-three linebacker set to a 3-4.
The Broncos had played a 4-3 defense throughout the 14-year Shana han era, although the team experimented this past season, in midseason, with the 3-4. The disastrous 41-7 drubbing at the hands of McDaniels' Patriots in October ended that idea, at least until Bowlen decided back upon the if-you- can't-beat-'em, join-'em method.
"We want to have a consistent scheme," McDaniels said of his defense. "As somebody who has played against this team for quite a few years here, the scheme and system have changed quite a bit. We want to bring some consistency to that and make sure we try to improve whatever the scheme is."
According to NFL scouts, the 3-4 could benefit the likes of Jarvis Moss and Tim Crowder, the Broncos' first-round and second-round picks in the 2007 draft. Although disappointments through their first two seasons, Moss has potential to convert from a defensive end to a stand-up, outside linebacker in the 3-4 and Crowder has the type of skills to play the type of defensive end required.
Many more Broncos players, however, are not considered suited for the 3-4, such as defensive linemen Ebenezer Ekuban, Dewayne Robertson and John Engelberger. The Broncos figure to pause before paying Robertson the $4 million roster bonus he is due on March 1.

Seems that Denver is no longer a question.

And if you don't think Ray Lewis is a great LB, then you're missing out.
While the depth chart CLAIMS they are a 3-4, they aren't. Suggs has has been lining up at DE for the past couple of years. Haloti Ngata is their NT, not a DE.

Suggs lines up at DE/OLB much like Vrabel and before him Colvin lined up at DE/OLB for us. Suggs has dropped back in coverage more times than people think.
Also, why would the website CLAIM they run a 3-4 if they run a 4-3? I don't think they're trying to trick anybody. Coaches get gametapes and see everything.

Because that is a website run by the NFL, not by the Ravens. Not everything that is posted there is 100% correct.
As I said, Haloti Ngata is their NT, not a DE. That, right there, should tell you its not 100% accurate. I mean, just look at the Patriots Depth chart:
There is at least 4 things wrong with it. And that is NOT including the fact that neither Seau nor Colvin are listed on it and that Thomas and Woods are both still listed.
