Late Saturday night the New England Patriots cut wide receiver Tiquan Underwood.
The move was a bit surprising because it comes just one day before Super Bowl XLVI. Underwood, who played in five games and caught three passes for New England, is replaced with practice squad linebacker Alex Silvestro.
The roster move is supposedly not a disciplinary action, but instead for the team's game plan against the New York Giants. ESPN's Ed Werder reported that receiver Chad Ochocinco will be active for the big game on Sunday after the 24-year-old Underwood was released.
On his Twitter account, Underwood said, "Good Luck To The New England Organization, The Coaches, & All My Teammates. #PatsNation."
It seems like a tough pill to swallow for Underwood, being cut the day before the biggest game of the season, but head coach Bill Belichick has a plan in mind. It will be curious to see how Ochocinco performs when he is in the game and also if Silverstro gets playing time or if he simply provides depth. For those answers, however, only time will tell.
