**Update**

According to Mike Garafolo, the Giants beat writer for the Star-Ledger, Osi Umenyiora was told that he is no longer allowed to look for a trade. I am not surprised by this because if the Giants lowered their asking price, they would want to deal with teams directly and have full control of the transaction. However, do not expect Umenyiora to be traded in the immediate future.

Late Tuesday evening, Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reported the Patriots would be one of four teams interested in New York Giants defensive end, Osi Umenyiora.

"As I first reported on Monday, if Giants lower demands for Osi Umenyiora from a 1st rnd pick, BAL, SEA, NE and possibly ATL interested" La Canfora said on his Twitter page.

The NFL Network analyst says that the interest by those teams is dependent on the Giants lowering their asking price for the disgruntled defensive stand-out. However, according to Pro Football Talk, big blue might be willing to do just that.

"The Giants reportedly had wanted a first-round pick for disgruntled defensive end Osi Umenyiora. Now, the Giants reportedly want a second-round pick for Osi".

On Sunday, the Giants gave Umenyiora permission to see a trade as long as appropriate compensation was given in return.

If Giants GM Jerry Reese has lowered the price so quickly, one has to speculate that he would be willing to take the best offer. If the Patriots offer a third or even a second-round pick for the pass rushing defensive end, I would imagine that could get the deal done.

Yes, the 29-year old Umenyiora has had some injuries and is looking for a new contract, but he had 11.5 sacks last season alone. With the Patriots considering a transition to a 4-3 base defense, Osi could be an incredible talent to add for the young defense. If I am Bill Belichick, this seems like the right value and opportunity the head coach loves.

This should be an interesting situation to monitor over the next couple of days, as more details are available I will be sure to post updates.
