The New England Patriots announced the signing of veteran free agent linebacker and former St. Louis Ram Don Davis on Friday.
Terms of the signing were not disclosed.
Davis' agent, Niel Cornrich, told the Providence Journal that the Pats defensive scheme is one of the reasons he's signing with New England.
"Don's a player who eventually hopes to coach and the opportunity to play in the most sophisticated defense in the NFL under coaches like Bill Belichick and Romeo Crennel was one he didn't want to pass up," Cornrich told the newspaper.
Davis originally signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted rookie free agent in 1995. He made his NFL debut with the New Orleans Saints in 1996 and appeared in 26 games over the next three seasons before signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1999. He appeared in 29 games over the next two seasons with the Bucs and later signed with the Rams as an unrestricted free agent in 2000. He started 15 of the next 28 games over the next two seasons.
In seven NFL seasons, Davis has started 15 of the 84 games he appeared in.
