Last season I made a wager for charity with Tony Massarotti of 98.5 The Sports Hub, and the Boston Globe. The wager involved the New England Patriots and the New York Jets. We picked which team we believed would have a better regular season record. Guess which team I took in this situation?
After the regular season was over, I was officially the winner of this wager for charity. My favorite charity is the Alzheimer’s Association, so I told Tony to please make his donation to this organization. Mr. Massarotti was nice enough to not only make the donation, but he ended up doubling the amount.
We might disagree often with his opinions on the Patriots, but Tony is a class act as he followed through on our wager. So, yesterday we both decided that we would make the wager once again for this season.
I actually believe the records between the Patriots and the Jets will be very close this season. As the “border war” continues between these AFC East rivals, I am glad that I have a wager where something good can come out of this rivalry that benefits a charitable organization.

What kind of a lowlife gives this column one star? Sheesh …. this is about a friendly wager for a very worthwhile cause, not about whether one likes or dislikes Mazz and his opinions. I’m not surprised that the coward ran away with no comment.
As someone who has had two family members, as well as a close friend’s father suffer from the affects of Alzheimers, I can speak from personal experience that the effects are devastating not just to that person, but to those friends and family left behind.
Russ, I applaud you for your choice of charity – and quite obviously hope that you win once again.
My grandmother had alzheimers and it is a horrible disease. Regardless of what someone thinks of Mazz and his comments on the Patriots, he is a stand up guy.
He has been nothing but nice to me and by making the donation to this Association meant a great deal to me personally.
I am surprised someone would rate it that way.
