The New England Patriots continue to shuffle their roster, making another transaction on Tuesday evening. One day after promoting offensive tackle Thomas Welch from the practice squad to the game-day roster, the Patriots have released him.

Welch, a 2010 seventh-round draft choice out of Vanderbilt, was promoted for depth after offensive tackle Sebastian Vollmer was unable to play in Monday night's game with a back injury. The second-year tackle does have practice squad eligibility if the Pats decide to bring him back.
This transaction opens up a spot on the Patriots 53-man roster, a move I would expect to be made on Wednesday.
If I was to take a guess on the position(s) the coaching staff may be targeting, I would look at offensive line or front seven help. I will post an update when more details are released.
