Patriots Beat the Eagles 24-21 with late game TD pass from Behren Morton to UDFA Nick DeGenarro (James Madison).\u00a0 This was the tale of two halves.\u00a0 The Eagles ran through the Patriots 2nd<\/sup> team Defense like a hot knife through butter.\u00a0 The Patriots Defensive line and linebackers were awful.\u00a0 After seeing this game and the two Joint Practices, they need to sign DaQuan Jones to help bolster against the run.<\/p>\n

In the second half, the third team Patriots beat-up the Eagles.\u00a0 However, the Defense kept blowing assignments and got caught blitzing too much.<\/p>\n

Quite a few players showed they can\u2019t play in this league with the plays they put on tape.<\/p>\n

Here are my observations:<\/p>\n

The Good <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Behren Morton<\/strong> (Player of the Game)<\/strong> had a great game.\u00a0 So much for sneaking him through waivers to the Practice Squad.\u00a0 Morton was 13 of 17 and one of those was a brilliant throw away.\u00a0 With the clock running down he purposely threw the ball out of bounds rather than try and make the completion to Larison.\u00a0 Brian Hoyer was singing his praises during the broadcast for the heads up play. \u00a0His TD throw to Nick DeGennaro to win the game was beautiful.\u00a0 He dropped it right in stride and DeGennaro walked it in.<\/p>\n

Patriots Offense <\/strong><\/h4>\n

140 Yards Rushing 4.2 YPC TD<\/p>\n

280 Yards Passing \u00a0\u00a013.3 YPC 2 TDs<\/p>\n

Patriots Run Defense<\/strong><\/h4>\n

90 Yard Rushing 3.8 YPC<\/p>\n

The Defense, I am sure got their butts chewed off at halftime.\u00a0 They came out and shutdown the Eagles rushing attack in the second half.\u00a0 They had two 4th<\/sup> down stops, one in the Red Zone for turnovers on downs.<\/p>\n

Lan Larison <\/strong>would have been my Player of the Game if Behren Morton didn\u2019t go off at the end of the game.\u00a0 Larison had four big plays in the game: 28-yard reception for a 1st<\/sup> down; 4th<\/sup> and 1 and he is hit in the backfield and fights with second effort and makes the 1st<\/sup> down; on the game winning drive, 3rd<\/sup> and 6, he had a 7-yard reception in which he fights for the 1st<\/sup> down; finally on the same drive, 3rd<\/sup> and 1 up the middle for the 1st<\/sup> down.\u00a0 Also, Larison was one of the two Kickoff Returners.<\/p>\n

John Saunders<\/strong> led the team with 8 Tackles<\/p>\n

Kindle Vildor<\/strong> had a stretch of three plays in a row.\u00a0 He nearly had an Interception (which I thought was an Interception and should have been challenged).\u00a0 Then undercut the receiver and got his hands on a pass which should have been an Interception.<\/p>\n

Quintayvious Hutchins<\/strong> had a huge sack at the end of the game to help preserve the win.\u00a0 It was interesting that Hutchins started last week and this week was in at the end of the game.\u00a0 He was wearing the same big elbow brace that Will Campbell has been wearing.\u00a0 He did miss some time this past week.<\/p>\n

Amari Gainer<\/strong> also had a sack and showed some speed rush pressure during the game.<\/p>\n

Behren Morton<\/strong> as a backup punter averaged 44.3 Yards Per Punt.\u00a0 Two of his punts didn\u2019t have a lot of hang time,but as an emergency Punter he is adequate.<\/p>\n

Kyle Williams \u00a0<\/strong>His 69-yard TD bomb was terrific.\u00a0 He got a clean release off the line and blew past the DB and walked into the endzone.<\/p>\n

The Bad <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Kyle Williams\u00a0 <\/strong>he is nowhere near a complete Wide Receiver.\u00a0 He continues to make the same mistake by not coming back to the ball.\u00a0 That happened twice during the game.\u00a0 He also had alligator arms going across the middle with defenders in the area.\u00a0 I wonder if the Patriots would consider trading Williams rather than Boutte who didn\u2019t play and appears to be safe.<\/p>\n

Mike Brown <\/strong>A late hit and missed tackles will lead to Brown being cut.\u00a0 Brown was replaced as the principle Personal Protector by Dell Pettus.\u00a0 That is not a good sign for Brown\u2019s future with the Patriots.\u00a0 John Saunders has beat him out for the 4th<\/sup> Safety.<\/p>\n

Caleb Lomu<\/strong> was not very good tonight.\u00a0 He was forced to play both sides after Marcus Bryant got hurt.\u00a0 Lomu ended up playing 3 quarters of the game. His run blocking needs a lot of work.\u00a0 It looked like a zone block \/stretch play and he got blown up into the backfield disrupting the runner.\u00a0 He also gave up a sack.<\/p>\n

Gabe Jacas<\/strong> was very inconsistent and didn\u2019t hold the edge on at least two plays.\u00a0 He occasionally made plays coming down the line, but on others he got sucked in and couldn\u2019t protect the outside.\u00a0 He needs to develop a secondary rush move other than a bull rush.\u00a0 Right now he is a 1st<\/sup> and 2nd<\/sup> down player only, and a liability in the pass rush.<\/p>\n

Demetrious Crownover <\/strong>got beat easily around the edge for a sack.\u00a0 He also allowed another pressure.<\/p>\n

Interior Offensive Line \u00a0<\/strong>They were brutal in the 1st<\/sup> half.\u00a0 I don\u2019t believe that Greg Van Roten played.<\/p>\n

The Ugly <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Injuries <\/strong><\/h4>\n

Bryce Barringer <\/strong>didn\u2019t kick at the end of the 1st<\/sup> half when Behren Morton came out to punt on a short field.\u00a0 He also missed the entire 2nd<\/sup> half.\u00a0 Mike Vrabel stated that it was a health thing (what does that mean?).\u00a0 Was he sick, did he pull a muscle?<\/p>\n

Khalil Jacobs<\/strong> \u00a0had a head injury on Kickoff Coverage.<\/p>\n

Marcus Bryant <\/strong>the backup Swing Tackle got rolled up on when a defender crashed behind his leg.\u00a0 He needed assistance to get off the field.\u00a0 Hopefully, it is not a serious injury.<\/p>\n

James Hudson <\/strong>I would have benched him in the 2nd<\/sup> Quarter.\u00a0 Two holding calls killed a drive.\u00a0 Then he missed a block and double teamed the Tackle, allowing a free rusher to Devito.\u00a0 I wouldn\u2019t wait until next week and cut him now before he gets some QB killed.<\/p>\n

Mike Vrabel<\/strong> felt he needed to call a timeout on Defense just to get their attention and focus.\u00a0 He chewed them out on the sideline.\u00a0 I bet he gave them an earful at halftime, and they came out and played better.<\/p>\n

Vrabel\u2019s Post Game Press Conference \u00a0\u201c<\/strong>We don\u2019t have a very deep team!\u201d<\/p>\n

Chad Muma<\/strong> had another bad game with missed tackles all over the place.\u00a0 He has played himself right off this team.<\/p>\n

Blown Coverages on Blitz <\/strong>The swing pass to the backs coming out of the backfield in all out blitzes, torched the Patriots Defense.\u00a0 If they hadn\u2019t given up those big plays the game would haven\u2019t been as close.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
