After the recent acquisition of wide receiver A.J. Brown<\/strong><\/a> and the offseason addition of Romeo Doubs<\/strong><\/a>, the Patriots already added two big pieces to their wide receiver room heading into 2026.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, head coach Mike Vrabel was asked about the possibility of another signing, which would potentially open the door to stack that room even further.<\/p>\n

Vrabel was asked directly about the idea of possibly bringing Stefon Diggs back into the fold, which was an idea that has been floated quite a bit recently here in New England.<\/p>\n

With Kayshon Boutte’s future still uncertain and a seemingly slow start in mandatory minicamp for Kyle Williams, the notion of adding someone like Diggs would certainly be interesting.\u00a0 That would give New England two highly productive receivers to go with an explosive player like Doubs.\u00a0 It would also give Drake Maye plenty of firepower to go with the rest of the offense.<\/p>\n

Still, as Vrabel pointed out, it’s a group that is pretty full at this stage.\u00a0 At the same time, he didn’t rule it out.<\/p>\n

\u201cProbably at the number that we would need right now, I wouldn\u2019t say anything is off the table,” said Vrabel on Wednesday<\/strong><\/a>. “We would want to add anybody that could help us. I\u2019m not going to give a percentage on it, but I think we\u2019re happy with where we\u2019re at right now with the numbers and the people in the receiver room.”<\/p>\n

“I appreciate Stefon as a person and as a player, and what he did for us last year. I\u2019ll value that. Helped us win football games, helped us get to where we got. But right now, I don\u2019t think that that\u2019s something that I think we\u2019re exploring, but I would never say no.\u201d<\/p>\n

Diggs led all wide receivers in 2025 with 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and 4 touchdowns, along with 14 receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown during the postseason.<\/p>\n

However, Diggs began to wear down as the year wore on, and by the end of January, he certainly didn’t look like the same player he was earlier in the season.<\/p>\n

The prospect of him being out there in a lesser role with less expected of him is definitely intriguing, but New England is still better served developing the younger players on the roster and setting themselves up for long-term success.<\/p>\n

For now, it looks like Diggs’ return is unlikely but not impossible.\u00a0 Should the club suddenly be in a situation where they need to add someone, it sounds like Vrabel wouldn’t be opposed to bringing the veteran back if it meant helping his football team.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
