Teams will be crucial in what I believe will be a close game. The loss of DeAndre Carter has really crippled the Kickoff and Punt Returns. Jerome Ford is now the principal Kickoff returner and ranks 50th amongst all returners in the league. Punt returns are pretty bad as well with Gage Larvadain averaging just 7.6 yard per return on his 5 Punt Returns. He doesn’t qualify for a ranking. Andre Szmyt the kicker out of Syracuse, handles the Field Goal duties. He is ranked 21st in the kicker rankings making 10 of 12 FG attempts and all 16 of his Extra Points. Beyond 50 yards he is 2 of 3. Former Patriot Corey Bojorquez is their Punter. He leads the league with 38 punts but his Net Yards per Punt is 37.3, 30th in the league.

Game Prediction

I expect this to be close low scoring affair. The Over/Under betting line as of Thursday is 40.5. The Cleveland Offense should be held in check by the Patriots defense playing at home. They cannot come out of the gate slow. The Browns defense is the real deal and should give Drake Maye fits by disguising coverages and blitzes.

Jim Schwartz is a master at deception. The key matchup is rookies Will Campbell and Jared Wilson against Myles Garrett who will line up all over the Defensive Line. He might even take a crack at Garrett Bradbury too. It will be interesting if they play two high safeties or bring up one in the box to stop the run. Maye will not have the time to throw that he has enjoyed the last few games. Turnovers and Special Teams will play a huge role in this game. I am picking the Patriots to win 17-13 in a low-scoring affair.

The Cleveland Browns enter the 2025 NFL season with anticipation and renewed optimism.
