This is my final New England Patriots<\/strong><\/a> roster projection!\u00a0 The rosters must be down to 53 by Tuesday at 4:00 EST.<\/p>\n

Offense (22) <\/strong><\/h3>\n

QB (2) Joshua Dobbs, Drake Maye<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cut Ben Woolridge*<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t like Dobbs as a backup and if a better option is available on waivers I think the Patriots will claim him.<\/p>\n

RB (3) Rhamondre Stevenson, Antonio Gibson, TreVeyon Henderson<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cut Terrell Jennings*, JaMychal Hasty, Shane Watts*<\/p>\n

The two RB on Practice Squad will serve as insurance should one of the big three get hurt.\u00a0 Too bad that both UDFAs Lampe and Larison got hurt and are now on IR. \u00a0\u00a0Jennings is hurt and his release may be with an injury buyout. \u00a0Don\u2019t be surprised to see him back on the Practice Squad as an insurance policy.\u00a0 The final 53 has only three running backs.\u00a0 Same could be said for JaMychal hasty who looked pretty good Saturday.<\/p>\n

TE (2) Hunter Henry, Austin Hooper<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cut Jack Westover*, Cole Frothringham*, Gee Scott, Jaheim Bell. And CJ Dippre*<\/p>\n

I see the Patriots keeping just two and making call ups from the PS to fill the FB\/3rd<\/sup> TE role.<\/p>\n

WR (7) Stefon Diggs, Demario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, Kayshon Boutte, Efton Chism III, Kendrick Bourne<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cut Javon Baker* John Jiles*, Jeremiah Webb*<\/p>\n

IR Ja\u2019Lynn Polk<\/p>\n

Bourne has an ankle issue and has been held out.\u00a0 If the Pats cannot trade him he will likely be put on recall IR, after making the initial 53-man roster.\u00a0 I like Jiles but there is no room at the Inn.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think he will re-sign with the Patriots Practice Squad.\u00a0 Bakers off day in Minnesota last Saturday is as much or more the fault of Dobbs.\u00a0 He was open twice, one for a TD and Dobbs poor throw was nowhere near him.\u00a0 Baker had similar problem with QB Ben Woolridge.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think Baker\u2019s Special Teams work will keep him on the roster.\u00a0 Polk is having surgery and he will be put on IR. It was rumored that Pittsburgh was interested in a deal for Polk, but with the season ending surgery that trade is moot now.\u00a0 Coach Vrabel was really pissed that the news of Polk\u2019s surgery leaked to the media.<\/p>\n

C (2) Garrett Bradbury, Ben Brown<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cut Alec Lindstrom*<\/p>\n

Strange played a god chunk of the Giants game exclusively at Center.\u00a0 He was horrible and proved that he couldn\u2019t play the position.\u00a0 Bradbury had a bad game versus Vikings backups.\u00a0 Brown could start at Left Guard or at Center.<\/p>\n

G (3) Mike Onwenu, Jared Wilson, Caedan Wallace<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cut Layden Robinson, Tyrese Robinson, Sidy Sow, Mekhi Butler*, Cole Strange<\/p>\n

Jared Wilson got demoted after a poor pass blocking game versus Washington and an injury at the 1st<\/sup> Joint Practice.\u00a0 PFF had him for an awful Pass Blocking rating of 22.2.\u00a0 I have never seen a rating so low.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think either Robinsons would accept a contract from the Patriots for their Practice Squad.\u00a0 I think the Patriots will be looking for a trade or waivers for a guard or center. Butler played well versus Washington and is worth keeping on the Practice Squad.\u00a0 Strange, the former 1st<\/sup> round draft pick of Bill Belichick was widely criticized as a reach in the 2022 Draft.\u00a0 Strange only played Center in the Giants game and played very badly.\u00a0 He is now officially a bust.\u00a0 Caedan Wallace didn\u2019t cover himself in glory in the final Pre-Season game and if the Patriots can find a better player on the waiver wire, Wallace could be gone. \u00a0\u00a0Mike Reiss has already reported that Tyrese Robinson has been cut.<\/p>\n

T (3) Will Campbell, Morgan Moses, Marcus Bryant<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cut Jack Conley * Demontrey Jacobs*<\/p>\n

Conley has limited foot speed and needs reps.\u00a0 A spot on the Practice Squad would benefit him.\u00a0 Jacobs went from starter to swing tackle to third team player.\u00a0 He would be offered a spot on PS but would look elsewhere first.\u00a0 The line is so bad right now that I would be taking a good hard look at moving either Bryant to Left Tackle and Campbell to Left Guard.\u00a0 It\u2019s not because Campbell can\u2019t play Left Tackle but because the Guard and Center positions are so bad.\u00a0 Move Campbell to Guard and Brown to Center.\u00a0 Improved Pass Protection but significantly make Run Blocking worse. \u00a0Add Vederian Lowe to the list of cuts.\u00a0 He had a rough game versus Giants backups.<\/p>\n

Defense (27)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

EDGE (4) Keion White, Milton Williams, Truman Jones,<\/strong> Elijah Ponder, <\/strong><\/p>\n

Ponder was highly praised by LB Coach Mike Smith as one of best UDFAs he has seen.\u00a0 If waived, he would most likely be claimed. \u00a0Jennings will be traded.\u00a0 Jones was an off-season award winner.\u00a0 However, Ponder and Jones did not play well against the Giants.<\/p>\n

Trade Anfernee Jennings<\/p>\n

DT (5) Christian Barmore, Jeremiah Pharms Jr., Joshua Farmer, Khyiris Tonga, Kyle Peko,<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cut Jahvaree Ritzee, David Olajiga**, Philip Bildi<\/p>\n

With Iton being waived injured (goes to IR if he clears waivers), I have Peko making the team now.<\/p>\n

OLB (3) Harold Landry, Bradyn Swinson, K\u2019Lavon Chaisson<\/strong><\/p>\n

I was not impressed by Bradyn Swinson.\u00a0 I have not seen any pass rush moves from him.\u00a0 He had one good year at LSU and the other 4 were duds.<\/p>\n

Cut Monty Rice*, Marte Mapu, RJ Moten, Cam Riley*<\/p>\n

Rice has done nothing in training camp to make the team.\u00a0 All of our linebackers have been very bad in coverage of Running Backs and TEs.\u00a0 I think Rice and Riley will be offered spots on the PS.<\/p>\n

ILB (4) Robert Spillane, Jack Gibbens, Christian Elliss,<\/strong> Jahlani Tavai<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tavai is kept only to be put on IR.\u00a0 The Pats are thin at the inside LB spot with only Gibbens as a backup<\/p>\n

CB (5) Christian Gonzalez, Carlton Davis, Alex Austin, Marcus Jones, D.J. James<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cut Isaiah Bolden, Tre Avery*, Miles Battle*, Kobee Minor*, Brandon Crossley*<\/p>\n

DJ James has just played himself onto this team.\u00a0 Austin is a quality backup and can play in the slot. Carlton Davis is hurt every year, and you can expect him to miss at least a month.\u00a0 \u00a0Marcus Jones has played well, but his small stature is a major problem in the Red Zone. \u00a0Minor and Battle were picked on during the Giants game. \u00a0Did Bolden even play in the Giants game?<\/p>\n

SS (3) Jabrill Peppers,<\/strong> Kyle Dugger, Dell Pettus<\/strong><\/p>\n

I have to give Kyle Dugger credit.\u00a0 He played hard against the Giants.\u00a0 As a veteran having to play in this games is a little demeaning.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t sulk and had three big open field tackles and a pass breakup in the end zone.\u00a0 However, he also took a wrong angle on a screen pass and allowed a big TD.\u00a0\u00a0 The Dugger era is over.\u00a0 He can\u2019t cover anyone and doesn\u2019t have any instincts for the game.\u00a0 There is no way to trade Dugger because of his outrageous contract.\u00a0 They would have to retain a big chunk of his contract in order to get anything back. \u00a0I don\u2019t think they will keep him just because they have to pay him.\u00a0 Pettus is younger and still developing.\u00a0 Pettus also had a much higher rating (28th <\/sup>) amongst all Safeties(171) by PFF.\u00a0 Pettus lead the team in tackles (7).<\/p>\n

FS (3) Craig Woodson, Jaylinn Hawkins, Marcus Epps<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cut Jordan Polk*<\/p>\n

Hawkins appears to be the leader for the Free Safety position.\u00a0 Woodson has terrific instincts and has by all reports has been in the right position all camp.\u00a0 Woodson can also play the slot corner.\u00a0 Do not be surprised to see the Patriots base defense be the nickel.\u00a0 Epps is making a comeback from ACL surgery last season, and has looked good.\u00a0 Polk will be offered a chance to stay with the team on the Practice Squad.<\/p>\n

Special Teams (4)<\/strong><\/p>\n

P (1) Bryce Baringer<\/strong><\/p>\n

LS (1) Julian Ashby<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cut Andres Borregales<\/p>\n

Romo didn\u2019t play against the Giants.\u00a0 I think he has beat out Borregales.\u00a0 The missed Field Goal against the Giants may have been the final decision.\u00a0 If Borregales is kept, it\u2019s strictly because he was a draft picks because the team doesn\u2019t want to look bad in drafting Borregales.<\/p>\n

The confusion with Iton is that the Patriots have two transactions for Iton.\u00a0 The first is Waived Injured and the 2nd<\/sup> is just waived.\u00a0 Both are on the 18th<\/sup>.\u00a0 If waived injured, Iton would go directly to IR if he cleared waivers.\u00a0 However, if the team reached an injury settlement it will just be a release.<\/p>\n
