As things start winding down, the Patriots will have to pare down their roster to 53 in the coming weeks, which will certainly leave them with some difficult decisions to make.<\/p>\n

With that in mind, it sounds like New England will continue exploring things even beyond their current group of players.<\/p>\n

Patriots Executive Vice President of Player Personnel said on Monday<\/strong><\/a> when asked about the ongoing situations throughout the league, the New England Patriots<\/strong><\/a> are continuing to monitor things from a possible trade standpoint, and the team remains open to potentially making a deal if the opportunity arises.<\/p>\n

“Yeah, absolutely,” said Wolf.\u00a0 “We\u2019re talking to all 31 other teams and trying to do what\u2019s best for us. If something presents itself, I think those things are often a lot more complicated than the fans and some others like to make it believe. But if there\u2019s something that we think can help us, we\u2019ll definitely be open to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

There are multiple players available, including Cincinnati defensive end Trey Hendrickson and Washington receiver Terry McLaurin, both of whom remain in contract standoffs with their respective teams.\u00a0 There are likely others who might come into play, especially as rosters begin to fill out on other teams and veterans are possibly viewed as potential bargaining chips.<\/p>\n

The next question is then what the Patriots might have to give up in order to pull off a deal, whether it might involve a current player or even a high draft pick.\u00a0 Considering their current situation, giving up any high future selections would seem unlikely as they continue building towards the future.\u00a0 However, Wolf also said Monday that, depending on the situation, it’s something they very well could consider.<\/p>\n

“Sure,” said Wolf when asked if they’d give up a second or even a first-round pick to make the team better this year.\u00a0 When asked why he would do that, Wolf responded, “Just doing what\u2019s best for the team. If there\u2019s a player out there that we feel like can help us, and it costs that, then we would consider doing that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Needless to say, they clearly like their chances heading into this season, so much so that making a significant move to build on what they have remains in play.\u00a0 Whether or not that might happen is another story, but clearly, the door remains open for that possibility as they continue mulling their options heading into this season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
