Day 5 Bring on the contact!<\/p>\n

Josh Minkins and Ja’Lynn Polk made their first appearances of Training Camp, with Minkins coming off the NFI list.<\/p>\n

Christian Gonzalez Injured in Practice<\/strong><\/p>\n

I saw a video of Gonzo pointing to the back of his leg, probably a hamstring.\u00a0 He struggled to get off the field and went immediately to the Medical Tent.\u00a0 He was taken back to the locker room on a cart.<\/p>\n

The description of the practice was a physical, run-heavy, red-zone focused practice, which the Defense won.<\/p>\n

Everyone was watching Will Campbell<\/strong> versus Keion White matchup<\/strong>.\u00a0 Early on in one-on-ones, White got the best of Campbell as he bull-rushed him into the backfield and gave him a push-pull move to get by him.\u00a0 Another time, White put Campbell on the ground in a run play.\u00a0 It\u2019s not all bad for Campbell, as Evan Lazar reported that Campbell buried White on a run play.\u00a0 Later, he stonewalled White on a pass rush. There were a couple of really good combo blocks in the run game from Will Campbell and Jared Wilson<\/strong> today.\u00a0 Will Campbell and Jared Wilson have dominated in the running game today. Running to the left side could result in a high success rate this year. \u00a0Wilson had another snap issue with Drake Maye, so maybe Left Guard may be his position. Evan Lazar thought Campbell held up well and had some standout blocks in the run game.<\/p>\n

Kayshon Boutte<\/strong> had a nice TD Catch from Maye in the corner of the end zone. Mike Giradi, of Boston Sports Journal, posted that Boutte had a few reps against Gonzalez before he got hurt, and Boutte held his own and was impressive.<\/p>\n

This was the first day of 1-on-1s between the Wide Receivers and Defensive Backs.\u00a0 Receivers won five matchups while Cornerbacks won seven.<\/p>\n

Out of the five wins, however, Kayshon Boutte won both his matchups against Gonzalez. It was an impressive display from the third-year receiver.<\/p>\n

In a post practice interview Boutte had this to say<\/strong><\/a>. \u00a0\u201cIron sharpens iron every day, so my focus is on getting better every day, working towards the best plays and getting sharp every day.\u201d This was in reference to his matchups against Gonzalez before he got hurt.<\/p>\n

Running Game <\/strong><\/h3>\n

On 8 run plays in 11 on 11s, only one was a stuff behind the LOS.\u00a0 An interesting note was all 8 went to Stevenson and Gibson.\u00a0 TreVeyon Henderson also had some carries, as all three had TD runs.\u00a0 Hendersdon\u2019s speed is very evident and he gets up to full speed very quickly.<\/p>\n

Runningbacks regularly run all the way to the endzone, well past the whistle.<\/p>\n

Drake Maye hits Ja\u2019Lynn Polk<\/strong> for a touchdown from inside the 10 on a well-executed Play Action fake. Polk beat Marcellus Dial on the corner route.\u00a0 Polk was strong the red zone last summer. This was Polks 1st<\/sup> practice of Training Camp.\u00a0 On that play, Campbell buried Keion White inside.<\/p>\n

Maye 5\/6, TD with 3 would-be sacks on completions in the 11 on 11s.\u00a0 Dobbs 2\/2 and Woolridge was 2\/3.<\/p>\n

K\u2019Lavon Chaisson had 2 sacks according to Andrew Callahan.<\/p>\n

UDFA WR DeMeer Blankumsee was carted off the field shortly after the Gonzalez injury.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s in a Name?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Parker Romo hit 6 of 6 on his FGs from 32 to 50 yards out.\u00a0 Andy Borregales did not kick today.\u00a0 What\u2019s in a name?\u00a0 John Parker-Romo just wants to be called Parker Romo.\u00a0 Andres Borregales wants to be called Andy.<\/p>\n

Backstory on DT Wilfried Pene Release <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Signed as a UDFA out of Virginia Tech, normally a release of an UDFA before camp is not newsworthy.\u00a0 This is according to Bernd Buchmasser of Pats Pulpit.\u00a0 Pene\u2019s student Visa was revoked by Virginia Tech after he left school to start training for the pros.\u00a0 Pene and the Patriots were unable to obtain an A-1 work visa for Pene and he was forced to leave the country and go back to France.\u00a0 Since then, he has worked with the US Embassy in France and obtained an A-1 visa.\u00a0 Keep an eye open for Pene to possibly return to the team if not in training camp, then on the practice squad.\u00a0 DT David Olajiga has replaced Pene as the International Pathways Program player on the roster.<\/p>\n

Report: LB RJ Molden Signed by the Patriots <\/strong><\/h3>\n

A report by James Larsen from PFN states that RJ Moten a LB from Florida and the UFL Michigan Panthers has been signed.\u00a0 Moten was a participant in the Patriots Rookie Mini Camp.\u00a0 The hybrid S\/LB played 2 years at Michigan and 2 at Florida and went undrafted this spring.\u00a0 He stands 6\u2019 229 \u2013 pounds and ran a 4.45 40 at his Pro Day this spring.\u00a0 This has not been officially reported by the Patriots.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
