FOOTBALL NOTES (2\/3) — The free agency deadline is quickly approaching, and it appears that keeping safety Lawyer Milloy may come at a price that may be too steep for New England to pay.<\/p>\n
The original proposal was to make Milloy the highest-paid saftey in the league ($5 million per season). According to the Boston Herald, Milloy doesn’t want to be at the top of the pay scale, he wants to shatter it.<\/p>\n
“Traditionally, cornerbacks get paid higher than us, but it’s time for a revolution,” Milloy told the Herald. “I want to set the new market for safeties. I think that we definitely get overlooked. Every time I turn on the television all the commentators are talking about are the safeties – myself included. You look at John Lynch, you look at Blaine Bishop, you look at Lawyer Milloy, you look at Carnell Lake. We are the leaders of the defense.”<\/p>\n
DON’T THROW OUT YOUR SEAT CUSHIONS YET<\/strong><\/p>\n The Patriots notified state officials that the new Foxboro Stadium won’t be ready until spring of 2002 at the earliest. In the meantime fans can expect to enjoy the comfort of the metal benches for at least another couple of seasons.<\/p>\n Meanwhile residents in a nearby trailer park which resides on land owned by Patriots owner Robert Kraft have been handed eviction notices. The residents reportedly have 180 days to leave the park, as the area is going to be cleared to make room for the new Football Venue.<\/p>\n Of the 74 homes in the park, 24 have agreed to a buyout or have agreed to sell their homes. The remaining 50 are being evicted.<\/p>\n While some say that they may challenge their evictions in court, Under state law, residents of mobile home parks are normally required to have two years notice of eviction.
