Mike Vrabel said on Tuesday during an appearance on WEEI<\/strong><\/a> that the search for potential coaches would be getting underway, but it sounds like there’s at least one name that will be removed from his possible list of candidates.<\/p>\n

According to Myles Simmons of ProFootballTalk.com, the Cleveland Browns are set to promote tight ends coach Tommy Rees to offensive coordinator<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 32-year old was someone who was believed to be among the names as possible candidates here in New England.\u00a0 Given the similarities between what Drake Maye having already learned under Alex Van Pelt, it felt like it might have made Rees a good fit, allowing Maye to hit the ground running in a new offense a little faster.<\/p>\n

Instead, it appears Rees will remain in Cleveland, which will leave Vrabel having to potentially set his sights elsewhere.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Vrabel did confirm during his appearance on The Greg Hill Show<\/em> that former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is indeed among the names they’ll be considering as the search gets underway.<\/p>\n

“I’m going to look at every possible candidate that I feel like can help us,” said Vrabel<\/strong><\/a>. “We’re going to start that process today, this afternoon, and visit with some great coaches, and then we’ll see where things go.”<\/p>\n

“I’ve had a relationship with Josh,” added Vrabel when asked about his former coach.\u00a0 “And I’ve had relationships with other offensive coaches and defensive coaches that we’re going to interview and want to bring in here.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
