When you do big things, the NFL apparently takes notice.<\/p>\n

After hitting a franchise record 63 yard field goal out in San Francisco on Sunday, New England Patriots<\/strong><\/a> kicker Joey Slye ended up with a note taped to his locker by the NFL.<\/p>\n

It wasn’t a quick little letter to congratulate him on his accomplishment on Sunday.\u00a0 Instead, it was a message to let him know the league was requesting him to be tested for potential performance-enhancement substances following his massive kick on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Slye posted a photo of the league’s request on his Instagram page:<\/p>\n

Slye hit the kick at the end of the first half against the 49ers, which got them on the board after they had initially fallen behind 20-0.\u00a0 He hit it perfectly straight through the uprights as time expired, and it even looked like it might have been good from far beyond the 63 yards it was officially counted for.<\/p>\n

That got New England on the board at 20-3, and it was key because the Patriots managed to force a fumble on the ensuing kickoff to begin the 3rd quarter.\u00a0 \u00a0The offense took advantage, turning that into points when Jacoby Brissett finished off the drive with a 5-yard touchdown pass to tight end, Austin Hooper.<\/p>\n

The touchdown cut San Francisco’s lead to 20-10, and New England was suddenly down just 10 points with plenty of football left to be played.<\/p>\n

Slye later added a 54-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter, but by then the score was 27-13 and things had gotten away from them as San Francisco went on to win 30-13.<\/p>\n

The loss dropped them to 1-3 on the season, which now has them facing a critical game this Sunday when Miami visits Gillette Stadium for the first of a two-game home stretch.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
