Patriots Week Three Opponent Preview: New York Jets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is a short week and a big advantage for the Jets playing at home on Thursday night.\u00a0 This is also the Jets Home Opener after playing the first two weeks on the road. \u00a0\u00a0Both teams come into the week 1-1.\u00a0 The Jets were one of the most penalized teams in the league.\u00a0 Because of all the penalties, they actually had to go 10.3 yards for a 1<sup>st<\/sup> down.\u00a0 That trend has continued this past week when they were penalized 7 times for 70 yards.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Offense<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>How did they even win 7 times last season?\u00a0 Yeah, they had the Patriots twice, but their Offense without Aaron Rodgers was anemic.\u00a0 This year they have completely revamped their Offensive Line and have Rodgers back.\u00a0 Rodger enters his 20<sup>th<\/sup> season in the league after spending time behind Brett Favre.\u00a0 He has seen it all.\u00a0 He had a torn Achilles on the 4<sup>th<\/sup> play of the season and was lost for the year.\u00a0 He was never really mobile and may be less so now.<\/p>\n<table width=\"131\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>The Jets have a vastly improved Offensive Line.\u00a0 They signed Tyron Smith, the 33-year-old 14-year veteran from the Dallas Cowboys.\u00a0 Smith Is an 8-time Pro-Bowl, 2-time All-Pro 1<sup>st<\/sup> team and 3-time All-Pro 2<sup>nd<\/sup> team selection.\u00a0 In the previous 4 years, Smith has missed 37 of the 67 games. \u00a0Of note is the backup and future starter Olu Fashanu the 1<sup>st<\/sup> Rd selection of the Jets in 2024.\u00a0 That is a player I wish the Patriots had drafted.\u00a0 Curious that Fashanu was taken with the 11<sup>th<\/sup> pick, a pick the Patriots could have received if they traded back with Minnesota who wanted Drake Maye.\u00a0 \u00a0No questioning his ability, just can he stay healthy?\u00a0 John Simpson is another Free Agent signed away from the Ravens.\u00a0 He was a 4<sup>th<\/sup> Round (#109) pick by the Las Vegas Raiders.\u00a0 He will be the starting LG.\u00a0 Of 52 games he played in, he started 38 of those.\u00a0 Joe Tippmann was a 2<sup>nd<\/sup> round (#43) of the Jets last season.\u00a0 He ended up starting 14 of the 16 games he played in.\u00a0 RG is their best O lineman in Alijah Vera-Tucker the 2001 1<sup>st<\/sup> Round (#14) by The Jets.\u00a0 Vera-Tucker is coming off his own Achilles injury last season which cost him the last 12 games.\u00a0 Morgan Moses is 33 years-old and entering his 11<sup>th<\/sup> season.\u00a0 The Jets acquired him from the Ravens.\u00a0 Originally a 3rd Round pick (#66) by Washington in the 2014 Draft.\u00a0 For his career, he has started 144 of 152 games.\u00a0 He started 14 of 14 games he played in last year, missing 3 games.<\/p>\n<p>At QB, Rodgers is no threat to run, but he won\u2019t hold onto the ball and take sacks.\u00a0 He has a very quick release.\u00a0 In two games he has 167 and 176 yards passing in each.\u00a0 Passing, he was 31 of 51 in the 1<sup>st<\/sup> two games. \u00a0On the 3rd downs they are converting at 50%.<\/p>\n<p>Big things are expected from Garrett Wilson a former 1<sup>st<\/sup> round selection in 2022 (#10).\u00a0 Wilson caught 10 passes for 107 yards.\u00a0 Michael Williams came over from the Chargers and gives Rodgers a big target to throw to.\u00a0 Alan Lazard is a former teammate of Rodgers in Green Bay.\u00a0 In the first game Lazard had 2 TD catches.\u00a0 He has 8 catches for 100 yards.\u00a0 Breece Hall is a dangerous receiver out of the backfield.\u00a0 He has 12 catches for 81 yards in the two games.<\/p>\n<p>At Tight End Ty Conklin is the starter.\u00a0 He has two catches for 16 yards and is not a big part of the offense.<\/p>\n<p>In the backfield Breece Hall will get the majority of carries. Hall is listed at 6\u2019 1\u201d, 220 pounds, which gives him prototypical size for an NFL running back. Reed O<\/td>\n<td width=\"127\">Brandin Echols<\/td>\n<td width=\"167\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"131\">&#8211;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"39\">NB<\/td>\n<td width=\"128\">Michael Carter<\/td>\n<td width=\"127\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"167\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"131\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>The Jets have been wracked with injuries and a significant holdout in Haason Reddick.\u00a0 Reddick is their best pass rusher.\u00a0 Leki Fotu, Zaire Barmes, Jimmy Ciarlo and Jermaine Johnson are on IR.\u00a0 FS Tony Adams is listed as Doubtful, DJ Reed ruled out, and CJ Mosely is Questionable.\u00a0 With the game coming on Thursday, there is less time to heal so someone that is listed as Questionable might just be out on Thursday night.<\/p>\n<p>Defensive Tackle Quinnen Williams and Javon Kinlaw are dangerous.\u00a0 Williams played all 17 games last season and had 62 tackles and 5.5 sacks.\u00a0 He is a 2-time Pro Bowl player and a 1<sup>st<\/sup> Team All-Pro in 2022.\u00a0 Williams has 33 sacks for his career and always gives the Patriots problems.\u00a0 Kinlaw come from the San Francisco 49\u2019ers.\u00a0 They didn\u2019t exercise the 5<sup>th<\/sup> year option on the former 2020 1<sup>st<\/sup> Round Draft Pick (#14), making him a Free Agent.\u00a0 He only started 6 of 17 games for San Fran.\u00a0 Soloman Thomas is listed as the backup DT, but he is more of a DE at 6\u20193\u201d 295.\u00a0 He is a former 1<sup>st<\/sup> round selection (#3) by San Francisco in the 2017 draft.<\/p>\n<p>Left Defensive End is the 2023 1<sup>st<\/sup> Round (#15) selection Will McDonald.\u00a0 McDonald is known for his pass rushing ability at Iowa State.\u00a0 In 2023 he played in just 14 games for the Jets with no starts.\u00a0 He did have 3 sacks.\u00a0 So far in 2024 he has already equaled his sack total from last year in just 2 games.\u00a0 He is someone that will have to be accounted for.\u00a0 RDE is Michael Clemons a 2022 4<sup>th<\/sup> round (#117) selection out of Texas A&amp;M.\u00a0 The 6\u2019 5\u201d 263-pound edge player is a bit of a hothead, getting into fights on two different occasions in weeks 11 and 12 of 2023.\u00a0 He played in 16 games both years but only has one start.\u00a0 Takkrist McKinley is listed as the top backup.\u00a0 He was a 2017 1<sup>st<\/sup> round pick (#26) by the Falcons.\u00a0 McKinley is a journeyman and has bounced around the league with 7 different teams.<\/p>\n<p>The linebackers are led by CJ Mosely.\u00a0 On the initial Report on Monday Mosely was listed as Questionable. \u00a0Entering his 11<sup>th<\/sup> season in the NFL, the 33-year-old is a 5 times 2<sup>nd<\/sup> team All-Pro, and 5X Pro Bowl selection. \u00a0In the first two games he had 12 tackles.\u00a0 He came to New York as a Free Agent in 2019.\u00a0 Jamien Sherwood, a 2021 5<sup>th<\/sup> Round (#146) selection.\u00a0 He is not fast nor is he big for a linebacker and susceptible in the passing game. Coming into this season he has started 7 of 38 games he has played in, mostly as a Special Teams player.\u00a0 He leads the Jets in tackles through two games with 16.\u00a0 Quincy Williams, the brother of Quinnen Williams starts at the Strongside Linebacker spot.\u00a0 A 2019 3<sup>rd<\/sup> round (#98) pick out of Murray State, Williams was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He is listed as only 5\u201911\u201d 225 pounds but runs a blazing fast 4.59 40-yard dash.\u00a0 Williams played just two injury riddled seasons with Jacksonville. \u00a0In 2021 he signed on with New York.\u00a0 In his three seasons with New York, he has never had less than 100 tackles and last season was his best with 139 tackles.<\/p>\n<p>Sauce Gardner is an elite shutdown corner in the NFL. \u00a0The 2022 1<sup>st<\/sup> Round (#4) pick of the Jets has been selected to the first team All-Pro and Pro bowl teams in each of his first two seasons. The 6\u20193\u201d 190-pound CB attended Cincinnati.\u00a0 Other teams don\u2019t even look his way on the field, avoiding him at all costs.\u00a0 On the other side DJ Reed is probably Out. For kickoffs he is ranked 6<sup>th<\/sup> with a 26.8 YPR. \u00a0In the Punt Returns he is averaging 9.75 yards per return.\u00a0 Thomas Hennessy enters his 8<sup>th<\/sup> season as the Jets Long Snapper.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Patriots Transactions<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As many of you already know by now, Free Agent signee, OT Chuks Okorafor has left the team, informing them he is contemplating his future in football.\u00a0 The team put him on the Left Team list.\u00a0 I hope he doesn\u2019t come back, and the team will get the remaining money back from his $4M salary\/bonuses.\u00a0 I would have cut him after his awful play in week one.\u00a0 He was a turnstile, lasting just 12 plays and nearly got Jacoby Brissett killed.<\/p>\n<p>The Patriots elevated Michael Jordan from the Practice Squad and signed him to the 53-man roster replacing Okorafor.\u00a0 Jordan has started for injured Sidy Sow the 1<sup>st<\/sup> two games.<\/p>\n<p>The team signed two players to the Practice Squad.\u00a0 CB DJ James was signed.\u00a0 He played at Auburn.\u00a0 The 5\u201911\u201d, 176-pound DB ran a 4.42 40-yard dash at his Pro Day.\u00a0 James was a 6<sup>th<\/sup> round pick (#192) of Seattle this year.
