Wow was that ugly.\u00a0 Here are some thoughts and notes coming off that embarrassing loss Sunday night:<\/p>\n

1) Jacoby Brissett and the 1st<\/sup> team Offense should have dominated the Commanders 2nd<\/sup> team Defense and they didn\u2019t.\u00a0 If it wasn\u2019t an overthrow to the back it was a drop by the WR (K.J. Osborn). Brissett hurt his right shoulder on a sack, and that is probably why he didn\u2019t go back in.<\/p>\n

2) Layden Robinson was bad as well with a holding call and a false start.\u00a0 Nick Leverett was flat out awful at Center with a missed snap in the shotgun and then fumbled a snap with Maye.\u00a0 It appears that was Maye\u2019s fault.\u00a0 \u00a0Leverett was terrible blocking, also.\u00a0 I think they need to get a backup Center now.<\/p>\n

3) Sidy Sow tried to pull to his right and block the edge rusher.\u00a0 Robinson gets pushed into the backfield, cutting off Sow, and JaMychal Hasty missed his block too.\u00a0 That is the play that Brissett got hurt on.\u00a0 X-Rays next week will determine if Brissett can play.<\/p>\n

4) Sidy Sow hurt his ankle. \u00a0It was reported by Christopher Price of the Boston Globe that Sow left the facility in a walking boot.<\/p>\n

5) The other big problem was lining up on the line of scrimmage.\u00a0 They were called 5 times for this.\u00a0 The League told the team before the game they would be looking for this.\u00a0 The coaches didn\u2019t prepare them, or they just didn\u2019t listen.\u00a0 You can\u2019t have any consistency with the line playing like that.\u00a0 Okorafor had 4 of those.\u00a0 This is on the coaches.<\/p>\n

6) On the bright side Drake Maye did show promise.\u00a0 He made some very good throws that Mac Jones never could make.\u00a0 He was 5-6 for 71 yards on that long touchdown drive, highlighted by his 17-yard scramble.<\/p>\n

7) Later, Maye rolled left and launched a deep ball down the sideline caught by KJ Osborn, and he ran it in for a TD, only to have it called back for an Illegal Procedure penalty by Chuks Okorafor for night lining up on the Line of Scrimmage.\u00a0 Those calls were infuriating, and the Patriots coaches should be livid after it.\u00a0 He had 4 of those calls on himself.<\/p>\n

8) Maye was 13 of 20 for 126 yards and a TD, without throwing a pick. \u00a0The receivers dropped too many passes, and the penalties wiped out a long pass and TD.<\/p>\n

Three UP<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Drake Maye<\/strong> \u2013 he was good but we have to remember the Patriots were using their 1st<\/sup> team Offensive line against the Commanders backups.\u00a0 Maye could be the starter if Brissett’s injury is serious.\u00a0 Jerod Mayo said that Brissett could have gone back in the game if this was a regular season game.<\/p>\n

Jalynn Polk<\/strong> –\u00a0 2 catches on 3 targets for 33 yards before being pulled.<\/p>\n

Antonio Gibson<\/strong> \u2013 ran three times for 17 yards and 5.7 yards average.<\/p>\n

Three Down <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Offensive Line <\/strong>\u2013 Nobody played well.\u00a0 The 5 Procedure penalties were disgusting.\u00a0 If they had anyone who could play better, I would have cut Chuks<\/strong> Okorafor<\/strong> after the game.<\/p>\n

Jacoby Brissett<\/strong> \u2013 He didn\u2019t look good at all.\u00a0 He also got hurt and that might be the out the Patriots need to start Drake Maye.\u00a0 I wouldn’t play Maye until they have an offensive line in front of him.<\/p>\n

Azzizi Hearn and Marcellas Dial<\/strong> \u2013 4 Pass Interference penalties in the second half set up the two Washington TDs.\u00a0 Hearn 45 yards and 19 yards.\u00a0 Dial gave up two for 19 yards each.\u00a0 The Patriots had 10 accepted penalties for 156 yards.\u00a0 Disgusting!\u00a0 I don’t want to see either of these guys on the Practice Squad.\u00a0 They can’t play in the NFL.<\/p>\n

Other players of note:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Christian Elliss ended up with 11 tackles, 7 of which were solo.\u00a0 This was also the best game that Sam Roberts played as he chipped in with 8 tackles.<\/p>\n

I remember the days when other teams would be salivating over the players the Patriots would cut.\u00a0 Those players that played in the 4th<\/sup> quarter can\u2019t play in the NFL.\u00a0 They were playing two edge players that weren\u2019t on the team a week ago.\u00a0 The defense had no push up the field and no pressure on McSorley.<\/p>\n

What was this passing by Washington with the lead late in the game?\u00a0 That was pretty bush league by Quinn.\u00a0 Was it him being petty because of the Patriots embarrassing him in the Super Bowl? \u00a0While I\u2019m at it, what about all those players in street clothes jumping on the field after a good play.\u00a0 That wasn\u2019t a very good look and some of those players should be fined by the league.<\/p>\n

My next Roster Projection will only have 51 players because the team doesn\u2019t have 53 players that can play in the league.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
