Georgia wide receiver Ladd McConkey is a player who many believe will be among the list of receivers taken early in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n

The Boston Globe’s Christopher Price caught up with Georgia Wideout Ladd McConkey in a recent\u00a0The Patriots Report with Price & Hogan<\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>podcast, with McConkey talking about a variety of topics, including his impressions after meeting with the New England Patriots<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

We mentioned it in this space yesterday<\/strong><\/a>, but here\u2019s the full transcript of that interview:<\/p>\n

On how he would characterize his conversation with the Patriots and if he\u2019s had any conversations since then:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cMore of the Senior Bowl, kind of their first time talking to you.\u00a0 They really wanted to get to know about your family, what made you want to go to Georgia, just getting to know the person not the player.\u00a0 So, met with them since then a couple times, and it\u2019s been great every single time.\u201d<\/p>\n

On what the conversations he had were like:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes, they\u2019ll give you their install, put some of their formations, their plays in, stuff like that.\u00a0 Try to memorize it, take it all in. Then they\u2019ll take your mind off of it, and go watch my film.\u00a0 So then they want to know if I can tell you what everybody\u2019s running, what the play call is, what the reads are, and then after I do that, they\u2019ll come back and [ask], \u2018OK, what was that play that I taught you again?\u2019\u00a0 So, little stuff like that.\u00a0 Just kind of see if you can recall information and if you can understand football.\u201d<\/p>\n

On his takeaways from those conversations:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cMeeting with them, I feel like it was solid every single time.\u00a0 Seemed like great people, great coaches.\u00a0 They want the best for me if that was to happen and all their players. So, nothing but great things to say about them and their organization.\u201d<\/p>\n

On how he deals with going through everything, and being at the end of the pre-draft process:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cJust kind of take it all in.\u00a0 It can be stressful or hectic or whatever.\u00a0 But at the end of the day, I get to go through this one time, so enjoy it.\u00a0 I\u2019m getting ready to live my dream out and play football for a job, so I can\u2019t be too mad about that.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the biggest change he\u2019s anticipating:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, you know, it\u2019s being in a whole new environment.\u00a0 I feel like you get drafted, and then you\u2019re there.\u00a0 There\u2019s some change in that, and then obviously, there\u2019s no school anymore, no classes, no mentor tutoring sessions, whatever you\u2019ve got going on, it\u2019s just strictly football.\u00a0 A lot more, just kind of taking care of business yourself.\u00a0 Obviously, you\u2019re there with coaches, but we\u2019re a professional now, so there\u2019s some different stuff that comes along with that.\u201d<\/p>\n

On what the biggest surprise that made him go, \u2018Wow, I didn\u2019t really anticipate that?\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe speed dating.\u00a0 All the teams, 10 minutes, and then move on to the next one, just rolling, rolling, rolling.\u00a0 Like at the Senior Bowl or the Combine.\u00a0 I knew I was going to meet with teams, but I didn\u2019t really know what to expect too much, just from what people had told me.\u00a0 So that was a different feeling than I\u2019ve had.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the question he\u2019s the most tired of hearing?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know, I guess if someone\u2019s kind of like, \u2018Hey, what team do you want to go to?\u2019\u00a0 At the end of the day, I mean, I don\u2019t have that decision.\u00a0 Whoever drafts me, I\u2019ll be happy with it.\u00a0 It\u2019s crazy because with college, I get to pick where I\u2019m going, that type of recruiting, but now it\u2019s kind of flipped.\u201d<\/p>\n

On who the guy or guys he\u2019s tried to model his game after?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, not anyone specific.\u00a0 I don\u2019t just watch a certain guy and try to match everything.\u00a0 I like to see what works for people.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know, if a release looked good by this guy, or the top of a route looked good by that guy, just use that and add it to my tools.\u00a0 But not anyone really specific.\u00a0 Honestly, there\u2019s so many great receivers in the league, I feel like I\u2019d be doing myself a disservice if I didn\u2019t try to watch some of everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n

On if he\u2019ll be at the draft?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cNo, sir, I\u2019m going to be at home.\u201d<\/p>\n

On if that was his decision, or how that works?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThat was my own decision.\u00a0 I just wanted to stay home and be with my family.\u00a0 I know they\u2019re going to be there supporting me.\u00a0 It would be a lot easier sitting in Chatsworth (Georgia) in my living room than it would be going out there.\u00a0 So it\u2019s just something I want to sit there and be able to be comfortable and enjoy it with all them.\u201d<\/p>\n

On his work with Six Star Pro Nutrition:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, partnering with Six Star, and their new Six Star Protein shake that they have coming out.\u00a0 It\u2019s really been essential.\u00a0 It\u2019s made it easy for me throughout this whole pre-draft process, whether it\u2019s been with strength, endurance, recovery, and it helps that the flavors are really good as well.\u00a0 Kind of get the best of both worlds from that aspect.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both Price and former Patriots receiver Chris Hogan often have some good stuff in their weekly podcast<\/strong><\/a>, so be sure and add that to your weekly list of shows in whatever app you use to listen to them.<\/p>\n
