The Patriots locked up a key free agent on Friday, with Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reporting that\u00a0the Patriots are finalizing a deal<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0with free agent tight end Hunter Henry.<\/p>\n

His deal is a reported three-year deal worth $27 million.<\/p>\n

Initial reports on Henry weren\u2019t promising, as the two sides were reportedly \u201cfar apart\u201d in negotiations.\u00a0 However, it looks like they were able to overcome whatever gap existed, which now ensures that Henry will at least be around for the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n

Locking him up makes sense, as\u00a0he\u2019s been among New England\u2019s most productive players on third down in previous seasons<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 Losing him would have left a significant gap in that area, which they already encountered last season following the departure of Jakobi Meyers.<\/p>\n

They spent most of last year hoping for someone else to emerge in those \u201cgotta have it\u201d moments, and it never happened.\u00a0 Fortunately, it appears they won\u2019t have to deal with losing one of the few guys they\u2019ve been able to count on.<\/p>\n

With Henry sticking around, it allows New England to set their sights on other areas, with tackle and receiver remaining key needs ahead of both free agency and the draft.<\/p>\n
