It appears the New England Patriots<\/strong><\/a> are heading into the 2024 looking to start over with a clean slate in the quarterback room, and the first domino fell on Sunday.<\/p>\n

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Patriots have agreed to terms on a trade<\/strong><\/a> that will send former first-round pick Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars.<\/p>\n

The deal will reportedly see New England receive a sixth-round selection for Jones, who will head back to his home town of Jacksonville.\u00a0 He’ll now back up the player who was taken #1 overall the same year he went #15th overall<\/strong><\/a> in Trevor Lawrence, with both players among quarterbacks selected in the first round in 2021.<\/p>\n

For the Jaguars, the acquisition of Jones adds a quality player to their own QB room, replacing one they were reportedly unhappy with losing in quarterback Nathan Rourke, who the Patriots claimed off of waivers back in December.<\/p>\n

The former CFL quarterback was a player the Jaguars had reportedly been pleased with his development and were apparently caught off guard when New England put in a claim as the Jaguars attempted to pass him through waivers and put him on their practice squad.<\/p>\n

The Patriots must also be happy with him as well, as Rourke recently saw the club give him an exclusive rights free agent tender that extended him through the 2024 season.<\/p>\n

The Patriots now have Bailey Zappe and Rourke on their quarterback depth chart heading into free agency.\u00a0 The club is also expected to address the position in the upcoming NFL Draft.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
