With the Patriots heading into Sunday’s game with questions at quarterback, it looks like one player will no longer be a factor.<\/p>\n

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the club has waived Will Grier<\/strong><\/a>, which shakes up the quarterback depth chart heading into New England’s game at MetLife Stadium against the Giants tomorrow.<\/p>\n

Multiple reports have said Bailey Zappe has received more reps among the first-team, with Grier also rumored to have received some snaps with the starters during the bye week.<\/p>\n

Having been pulled off the field despite a four-point deficit in Germany against Indiapolis, it felt unlikely that Mac Jones would get the starting nod tomorrow.\u00a0 However, Jones said this week that he “hoped” he would be under center<\/strong><\/a>, telling reporters “that’s the plan,” or at least as far as he was aware.<\/p>\n

For Zappe, his opportunity appeared more likely to be coming<\/strong><\/a> given how things have unfolded, especially since he seemed to have the edge over Grier given where he’s been on the depth chart for most of the season.\u00a0 He’s been the backup behind Jones for most of the year, with Grier sitting as the emergency quarterback during the majority of them.<\/p>\n

Zappe’s also appeared three times in relief of Jones, with their game against the Colts in Germany leaving people wondering if that might have been the last time we might see Jones start over these final seven weeks.<\/p>\n

Instead, it’s now just Jones and Zappe on the club’s roster at quarterback, with Malik Cunningham also an X-factor should the QB carousel continue to churn depending on how things continue to play out.<\/p>\n

For now, Grier’s departure certainly makes things interesting.\u00a0 But for an offense that sits at the bottom of the league in scoring<\/strong><\/a>, Bill Belichick is likely hoping to see some improvement for a team with no where to go but up from here.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
